Job Title: Buying Manager
Department: Buying
Reports To: VP/DMM
Effective Date: 12/1/23
Salary Range: $90,000-$105,000 Annual
Location: Lynnwood, WA (In-office)
POSITION PURPOSE
The Buying Manager is responsible for leading their department. They will develop and execute plans through their teams to hit monthly, quarter, and yearly sale and margin targets, as well as OTB and stock levels. Work with other leaders in the buying department and company to ensure alignment, as well as working on inter and cross department projects/initiatives. They will also be responsible for training and developing their people for the long-term success of the department and company. They should have a deep understanding of Womens clothing trends, brands and influencers.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Maximize sales and margin opportunities
Develop financial plans with planner
Lead and develop a large team to support their individual and collective growth of their sub-teams
Formulate and execute product strategies to hit sales and margin targets
Drive adaptable plan changes to react to current business trends
Manage stock levels to seasonal targets
Develop frame work for assortment planning
Identify and implement continuous improvements to buying process
Play a lead or support role in inter and cross departmental projects and initiatives
Own markdown, transfers, and seasonal consolidation strategy for the department
Recruit, Hire and Train new members of the buying team
Conduct performance reviews, support team in developing professional development plans and manage employees to success
Create and execute successful product promotion strategies within budget and deadlines
Identifying, establishing and providing oversight in the relationship with new and current vendors
JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
7+ years buying experience including large scale/multi door buying
2-5 years of experience of direct management of leading a team of buyers
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Excellent understanding and application of "retail math" and business analysis
Ability to motivate, teach and manage successful performance of others
Demonstrated ability to express creativity and innovative ideas
Strong time-management and organizational skills
Thorough understanding of the Zumiez, customer, market and industry trends and ways to capitalize
Ability to think critically and solve problems
Ability and willingness to work hard in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment both independently and as a team member
Advanced computer skills with buyer toolset (ie Toolbox)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other applicable systems
Entrepreneurial spirit
High attention to detail
Must be willing and able to travel regionally and/or domestically by air
Travel to domestic markets and national events required

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to sit in a stationary position in an office environment for extended periods of time and work on a PC without limitations
Must be able to distinguish and inspect materials on product
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery
