Under general direction, responsible for complex daily procurement functions directly associated with assigned product families and related commodities to exceed customer quality and delivery expectations. Routinely engage in inventory management, replenishment orders, customer service level management and cross-functional teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Utilize multiple sources to maintain effective vendor base to procure necessary commodities.

  • Input purchase orders and shop orders into system to ensure required product is on hand when needed.

  • Utilize MRP and Kanban systems to release orders to vendors in a timely manner.

  • Develop detailed knowledge of assigned product families and related commodities.

  • Monitor purchasing metrics of turns and months on hand by product family, inventory, line fill, shipped complete on time and covered/not covered for assigned commodities.

  • Monitor and act on exception reports to achieve required customer satisfaction and inventory requirements by SKU.

  • Work with vendors on lead time and delivery improvements.

  • Review internal quality reports for assigned commodities and take necessary action including working with Quality team and vendors to correct or replace product.

  • Work with Customer Service and Marketing to optimize company performance for inventory and service levels.

  • Prepare and deliver necessary reports as required by management.

  • Work with various members of Supply Chain group and on cross functional teams to achieve company goals.

  • Other duties as assigned

Required Education/Experience

  • Associate's Degree in related field (Bachelor's Degree preferred); or equivalent combination of education/experience may be considered.

  • Two to five years of purchasing experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment; automotive aftermarket or consumer products industry is preferred.

  • APICS, CPIM, CPM, ISM or equivalent certificate is preferred.

Required Skills

  • Familiar with a variety of the purchasing fields' concepts, practices and procedures.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook and Excel.

  • AS400 experience with ERP (MRP/MPS) software preferred.

  • Ability to make immediate decisions in a fast-paced, high transaction environment.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with internal customers, peers and management.

  • Ability to successfully interact with peers, management, customers and suppliers

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to travel domestically (up to 5%)
  • Sitting for long periods of time (6+ hours per day)
  • Viewing computer screen for majority of the work day (6+ hours per day)
  • Dexterity to successfully operate office machines (PC, phone, fax, copier, scanner)
  • Ability to safely and efficiently maneuver around the office when necessary
