SUMMARY:

The Buyer / Planner position is a dynamic role that encompasses responsibility for the planning of material requirements, managing deliveries, managing inventory and maintaining batch sizes. This position will work very closely with the supply base and the shop floor to identify opportunities for productivity improvements, avoid downtime, avoid cost increases, and reduce lead-times. Also plays an integral role in the success of the Logistics Department by ensuring total customer satisfaction in a continuous improvement environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain optimal levels of inventory while balancing the need to maximize inventory turns with the need to minimize stock levels.

  • Analyze domestic and international shipping forecasts to achieve optimal inventory levels.

  • Analyze current and potential backorders daily to ensure order fill rates.

  • Communicate needs to supplying vendors as needed.

  • Keep up-to-date on both actual and potential supply problems and/or delivery issues; provide timely communications and analysis to management.

  • Develop and promote better ways of analyzing and communicating service to both internal and external customers.

  • Assess suppliers' performance against predetermined goals.

  • Assist in improving supplier quality acceptance rates, delivery performance and cost savings performance.

  • Disposition discrepant material as needed.

  • Participate and/or coordinate projects as assigned, including reporting, supplier communication, and other related projects.

  • Create purchase orders and ensure appropriate delivery.

  • Communicate with vendors to obtain product, price, availability and delivery information.

  • Prepare material variance analyses and review cycle count results to allow for appropriate recommendations for improvements.

CAPABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Solid computer skills including experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

  • High energy multi-tasker, deal with ambiguity.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong attention to detail.

  • Statistical reporting skills.

  • Ability to understand and support a manufacturing schedule.

  • Superior negotiation skills.

  • Good project management skills, and the ability to multi-task.

  • Lean manufacturing experience preferred.

  • Team player who is willing to take on a variety of responsibilities to support operations.

  • Flexibility in a constantly changing environment.

  • Demonstrate strong customer focus and drive for results

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's Degree required.

MISSION / SUMMARY: This position is key to secure goods and/or services for the facility in accordance with purchasing policy and delegated authority. The successful candidate will understand and align business operations and Purchasing as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives. JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following. * Provide Prompt and professional purchasing services to internal customers by communicating effectively with the Operating, Engineering, and Maintenance areas * Promptly handle requisitions to ensure stable supply and timely availability of services and materials * With guidance and support, prepare and publish bid specifications, evaluate responses, and negotiate purchases and contracts for mill needs * Support stores, mill operations and maintenance through supervision of stores inventory services * Review MRP/Reservations Purchase Requisitions * Investigate and process inventory deletions and obsolescence requests when identified * Focus on stores stock corrections within SAP (descriptions, stocking levels, criticality) * Review min/max stocking levels * Coordinate return/cancellations purchase orders for MRP * Resolve unidentifiable material on MRP run * Manage supplier relationships * Execute buying strategies and analyze market/industry conditions * Assist with development of supply recommendations * Assist maintenance as needed with the following tasks: * Stores emergency material investigations * Troubleshooting issues with stores material * Assist with material rebuild management * Maintain vendor history to ensure the correct vendor is kept for supply needs and quality * Quality Control for stores material * Back up for Stores Supervisor * Participate in the Weekend Duty Rotation for Purchasing Department BACKGROUND / EXPERIENCE: * Minimum of three (3) years experience in Material Management or Stores related field * Industrial/manufacturing experience required * Pulp & Paper Mill experience preferred. EDUCATION / KNOWLEDGE: * Four year degree preferred or equivalent work experience required in lieu of degree.
