Overview

Do you have general knowledge of tobacco leaf standards, looking to drive quality at a leading consumer packaged goods company? If so, then we have an opportunity for you!

We are currently looking for a Leaf Buyer in our Tobacco Leaders Program. You will be responsible for assigning value, grading and purchasing the tobacco needed to manufacture company products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead direct contract purchase activities. Execute check-in & contract requirements review.

    Assign accurate stalk position & quality. Execute quality control activities (CPA/TSNA sampling, NTRM Search, calibrations). Monitor shipping. Complete all required documentation & records management requirements.

    Provide project support and serve as Team Lead. Examples include but are not limited to: GAP Assessments, NTRM inspections, buying process improvement.

    Lead receiving station start-up and shutdown activities: equipment calibration and inventory management, order buying & office material, start-up scheduling. Support leaf utilization and International Leaf Procurement activities as assigned.

Skills/Experience

  • High school diploma required with minimum 10 years tobacco buying experience OR Bachelor's degree with minimum 5 years tobacco buying experience. Knowledge of leaf processing, tobacco production, grades, grading standards and quality requirements.

    Strong interpersonal communication skills. Actively listen to partner concerns & appropriately communicate pertinent information to the business. Utilize SAP system to execute buying.

    Serve as subject matter expert for business process activities between farm, receiving station and stemmery. Ability to work in extreme hot, cold and dusty conditions and stand for long periods of time. Ability to travel 75% of the time.

    Capable of distinguishing colors, textures and aroma to determine leaf grades, stalk positions and quality. Because Driving is required for the position, you must have a valid U.S. driver license in good standing for the last 3 years. Any DUI/DWI conviction in the last 3 years will be an immediate disqualifier for the position.
