Job Summary
The Buyer II role is part of the purchasing team. The team is responsible for selecting and purchasing quality products for the business and the Buyer II role is responsible for a subset of those parts. The responsibilities will include processing purchase orders, negotiating with suppliers, tracking order delivery, and ensuring supplier quality is maintained.
The Buyer II will work cross functionally with various departments to forecast the needs of the business and make purchase decisions based on demand.
The Buyer II should be analytically minded and possess excellent negotiating skills to secure best prices and terms.
The Buyer II role will be the contact point and team lead regarding importing purchased products dealing with freight rates, customs and compliance.
Essential Functions
Analyze inventory levels and forecasts to properly source sales and manufacturing demand.
Obtain quotations, examine bids and negotiate price.
Interact with suppliers ensure both on-time delivery and the best market price.
Handle sensitive or classified materials and information in confidence.
Conduct quarterly supplier reviews.
Maintain procurement records, reports and metrics.
Network and negotiate with suppliers for competitive pricing.
Prepare clear and concise reports and correspondence.
Maintain and handle issues involving HTS and USMCA.
Manage foreign import/export via containers and LCL.
Prepare and submit import declarations and other required documents to customs authorities.
Liaise with Accounts Payable to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices.
Stay updated on changes in import regulations and trade policies to ensure compliance and identify potential cost-saving opportunities.
Performs other duties as necessitated by company or team needs.
Qualifications
Strong work ethic with ability to work independently and as a team member and leader.
Strong oral & written communication skills, ability to communicate with all levels of the organization.
Flexible with willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Professional attitude with ability to prioritize and multi-task with attention to detail.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Mechanical knowledge preferred.
Experience
5 years of purchasing experience.
Experience with import buying and customs, tariff, and international freight compliance.
Experience in working in an ERP/MRP environment.
