Our Purchasing team's mission is to provide bargain-minded customers with the deepest discounts on quality and branded products. In many ways our team is the heart of the organization- building and maintaining vendor relationships and providing solutions for our supplier partners and independent operators. About the Role:

As a Grocery Buyer, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of your assigned categories within the Department. You must possess the strategic planning and communication skills needed to plan and direct the future growth of your assigned grocery categories, be able to make quick buying decisions, manage key supplier relationships and provide direction to your Assistant Buyer and Inventory Planner. You must be able to manage a dynamic merchandise assortment that changes weekly based on the opportunistic inventories available while maintaining an overall inventory level that achieves the company inventory turn objectives. Given the broad nature of the merchandise within your assigned categories, this individual must have the ability to develop a solid understanding of Grocery Outlets core customer and have a "gut merchant" sense about how various items will perform at deeply discounted retails (without the benefit of good historical sales data). This role reports to the Sr. Buyer - Grocery.

Responsibilities Include:

• Successfully identify new product opportunities

• Adjust retail price, margin, value to the customer, risk, and timing during negotiations

• Recommend and advocate innovative solutions during the negotiating process

• Partner with the planning team to identify opportunities that strategically maximize sales and minimize loss

• Maintain cross functional relations with Operations, Store Operators, Marketing and IT

• Foster relationships with our existing supplier base.

• Prioritize which deals to pursue

• Take the lead in inspiring others with differing viewpoints to work together for mutual benefit

• Plan short and long-term goals based on team and department's strategic initiatives

• Respond to changing demands and prioritize appropriately

• Demonstrated ability to successfully sell Grocery Outlet to vendors

About The Pay:

• Base Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000 Annually

• Annual Bonus Program

Final compensation will be determined based upon experience and skills and may vary based on location

About You:

• You have 10+ years of experience buying or selling consumer products

• Experience working with a discontinuous product assortment and/or discount retailer is highly desired

• You have an entrepreneurial spirit and enjoy taking calculated risks

• You love people, are collaborative and enjoy building relationships

• You're able to react quickly and re-prioritize competing priorities with limited direction… you love this environment!

• You are passionate about what you do and have shown high levels of engagement in previous roles

• You have a proven track record of growth and/or improvement in previous roles

• You are a skilled negotiator that is unafraid to offer the ridiculous but can achieve outcomes in which everyone wins

• You have an innate ability to identify product trends and hot selling items… you enjoy this!

• You are well organized, detail oriented and have good follow-through

• You have excellent written and oral communication skills
