  • Work in conjunction with vendors and/or product development to establish a line of product that meets the needs of our customer, while maximizing sales, profit and gross margin.

  • Analyze sales reports and market trends to establish a pattern of projected sales.

  • Work with allocation team to ensure proper distribution and allocation of product.

  • Work with the Divisional Merchandise Manager (DMM) to plan line review studies and reports to build a product line for a given season.

  • Prepare all reports for all budget and sales meetings.

  • Field travel in order to keep track of trends within the marketplace.

  • Work with Logistics department and buyers from other divisions in order to coordinate product delivery.

  • Effectively partner with planning and merchandising team in order to develop financial plans for future seasons.

  • Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while remaining flexible to change priorities.

  • Effectively interface with Senior Executives and make recommendations.

  • Creatively negotiate the best terms in order to maximize sales and profits.

  • Understanding of product, customers and of market and fashion trends.

  • Bachelor's degree preferred and a minimum of 3 years experience in retail and ecommerce buying processes and product life cycles required.

  • Knowledge of mainframe systems QMF, Purchase Order System, GMS, preferred.

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks with tight deadlines.

Additional information is available at: About this job: The Buyer will be responsible for managing their specific product division which includes the selection, purchase and delivery of merchandise which adheres to the merchandise philosophy of quality, price, fashion and brand. Responsibilities: * Manages opportunistic buying responsibility (based on vendors or classifications) and accountability for sales and margin performance. * Manages receipts in terms of balancing assortments and flexing from flow versus packaway. * Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in negotiating for packaway goods to offset additional costs of storing merchandise (e.g. additional dating, vendors holding merchandise etc.). * Provides on-going analysis and interpretation of key business issues. This includes monitoring regional merchandise reports (i.e., Cold & Warm Store Strategies), Open-to-Buy monitoring, stock analysis and other ad hoc analysis. * Proactively networks with vendors regarding available merchandise and will negotiate directly on purchases. This includes frequent visits to showrooms, selecting product and handling negotiations, either independently or in conjunction with their supervisor. * Shops all competing and Ross/dd's stores to identify opportunities, trends and labels.
