Belcan has a job for a Buyers Commodity Specialist with a manufacturing client located in Springfield, Ohio. The individual coordinates activities related to the purchase-to-pay process on materials, products and services in support of the client, beginning with the intent to purchase through delivery and invoicing by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities:

Analyzes the requirements of the material, product or service, including preliminary specifications, preferred supplier, and date needed.

Solicits and evaluates proposals for the requested material, product or service and secures the lowest possible cost balanced against the optimum quality and production needs, and implements purchase contracts that comply with company and government regulations.

Assures that the material, product or service is delivered on schedule, at the negotiated price, and meets the quality standards of the company.

Maintains timely control and accuracy of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records through use of the Vantage software.

Applying lean principles and participating in lean concept, especially when ordering material for the shop and tracks the performance of suppliers in quality and delivery and assists in applying lean manufacturing concepts and 5S

Qualifications:

Preferred is a Bachelors Degree in a related field, certification as an Accredited Purchasing Practitioner (A.P.P.), Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) or Certified Purchasing Professional (C.P.P.), or 2-4 years related experience.

Proficiency in the use of personal computers to include knowledge in the use of the Internet and software programs such as Microsoft Office products and ERP systems.

Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to read, analyzes, and interprets general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations, and write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public,

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume, and apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Must be able to work effectively individually and in a team environment, pay close attention to details, and perform successfully under minimum supervision.

You will do this by utilizing purchasing methodology to prepare specifications, solicit bids, evaluate and award purchase orders. This position requires a candidate with strong interpersonal and self-motivational skills and an "I'll figure it out" attitude. Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate: * 5+ years work experience within a purchasing capacity. Use of MRP planning system and other related experience preferred. * Professional purchasing, supply chain, or equivalent certification helpful. * Working knowledge of electronics and/or electronic components preferred. * Experience as manufacturing supplier beneficial. * Prior experience with pricing and other negotiations preferred. * Possess good interpersonal communication skills (written, verbal, telephone). * Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred, primarily with Excel. * Ability to establish priorities when faced with multiple deadlines and to perform tactfully under pressure. * Ability to learn to schedule activities and orders to meet established production plan. Ability to analyze problems, quickly determine solutions, and effectively implement those solutions. * Possess clerical skills such as electronic mail (email), filing, faxing, data entry, and report printing. * Ability to fulfill all responsibilities without constant supervision. * Ability to maintain a positive attitude despite adverse circumstances. * Ability to write organized status reports, write neat/legibly and perform neat/organized work. * Ability to accurately follow detailed instructions. Possess good math skills. * Intent on pursuing an issue persistently until it is resolved. Typical Duties and Responsibilities: * Conserves DMP's assets by ensuring that materials are purchased in proper quantity and arrive on time. Obtains goods and services at prices, terms, quality, and conditions which are of lowest total cost and highest benefit to the company. * Places Purchase Orders for assigned products as directed by MRP and the Director of Purchasing. * Prepares, transmits, and completes data entry of purchase order releases for assigned products. Verifies vendor receipt and obtains confirmation of release according to DMP desired schedule. * Maintain Material Shortage Reports for assigned products and expedites daily. Keeps Purchasing and Production updated of current status of shortage items. Contacts suppliers and ensures that all shipments arrive before they are needed in Production. Uses tact, determination, persistence, persuasion, and problem-solving ability to ensure shipments arrive on time. * Promptly and effectively resolves incoming shipment discrepancies, purchase order/release discrepancies, and purchase price discrepancies daily. Contact suppliers to institute long-term solutions to these discrepancies. Responsible for prompt disposition of rejected materials and freight claims. * Monitors vendor performance on an ongoing basis. Evaluates vendor service, pricing, and delivery trends, promptly reports concerns to Director of Purchasing in a timely manner. * Meets with vendor sales people as required. Schedules meetings as necessary with vendor representatives to discuss business related matters and to develop beneficial business relationships for DMP. * Researches new sources of supply, new products, and cost reductions on an ongoing basis. * Maintains item masters including electronic copies of specification sheets and other key documentation. Maintains component item numbers and completes data entry into MRP system. * Assists in preparation and data entry of annual RFQs, including quote summaries and award recommendations. * Establishes, enters and maintains a rolling sales forecast in MRP system for assigned OEM products. Updates forecast, as needed, for changes in sales demand, including special project orders. * Reviews OEM Finished Goods stock levels and recommends changes to assure appropriate stock. Acts as primary contact with OEM suppliers. * Works closely with Customer Service and Production Planner in establishing ship dates for special project orders and in resolving unusual ATP issues. * Controls costs related to inbound freight, purchase price variances, scrap, and material obsolescence. * Oversees the vendor return process for non-conforming materials. * Maintains and enhances professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in DMP University. * Assists Director of Purchasing with component evaluation process and tracking. * Adheres to departmental inventory policies and practices. * Contributes to team effort by performing related duties or filling in for others in the department or other departments when needed. Performs other duties as assigned. Job duties are subject to change as directed by management. * Observes company policies. Continuously finds processes that create improved efficiency while maintaining conformance to requirements.
