Pentair currently has an opening for a Business Unit Operations Director to join our team at our North Aurora, IL location. In this role, the Business Unit Operations Director will develop and execute the strategies of the manufacturing operations for a multi-site, complex global business unit with three manufacturing sites in the US along with a site in Europe. This Business Unit Operations Director will operate at the systems level to drive growth, profitability, build operational talent, address key operational performance challenges and implement sustainable standard practices around Lean, leveraging the Pentair Integrated Management Systems (PIMS) to deliver exceptional performance to our Customers.

You will:

  • Be a key member of the business unit leadership team

  • Partner with core cross functional leaders across the business unit (Finance, Engineering, Human Resources and Sales) to meet operational goals.

  • Establish and drive strategic alignment across the business unit through direct leadership of plant managers and in close partnership with the regional operations leaders.

  • Partner with Business Unit Leaders on driving and delivering business unit top strategic priorities.

  • Create and drive operations strategy across the business unit and ensure alignment with the overall organizational strategy

  • Lead and mentor Site Leaders in the development of a Winning Culture.

  • Develop and improve the skills, knowledge and abilities of the managers to ensure strong succession planning and talent retention.

  • Be responsible for leading the team of Site Leaders and functional reports in the planning, directing, and coordinating of all global manufacturing and functional operations across the global business unit.

  • Own talent management processes at leadership level.

  • Evaluate talent depth and work with management and functional teams to develop talent pipelines.

  • Drive safety culture and implement new and innovative techniques to provide a safe working environment partnering with the EH&S organization.

  • Drive the quality culture and achieve service level commitment to customers.

  • Set standards and performance metrics in support of the organizational goals and objectives.

  • Drive a continuous improvement philosophy based on the Toyota Production System (TPS).

  • Drive financial performance of global operational sites and adjust budget to ensure we meet our commitments.

  • Meet and exceed year over year financial targets through active continuous improvement projects and driving material and non-material cost out of the business.

  • Partner with peers and other leaders to improve operational systems, processes and establish best practices.

  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned, including interim operating leadership roles.

You should:

  • Have earned a Bachelor's degree (B.A., B.S.) or equivalent (Business, Engineering or equivalent field preferred).

  • Have 12+ years of experience manufacturing and/or engineering which includes direct experience leading others in a manufacturing environment.

  • Have P&L experience.

  • Have strong business acumen.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of and analyze markets and competition.

  • Be capable of advising business leadership team.

  • Have experience in a Make to Order (MTO) or Engineered to Order (ETO) business.

  • Have lead or has had significant experience in operational transformation planning.

  • Have demonstrated experience in Lean Manufacturing.

  • Have experience implementing in Lean enterprise processes and thinking.

  • Have strong knowledge of ERPs (JDE or SAP systems ex.).

  • Have strong computer skills (Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).

  • Be able to set strategic direction, and build a sense of shared purpose and vision.

  • Be skilled in process management, planning and change management.

  • Have demonstrated skill in identifying root causes of problems/issues by asking probing questions and the ability to develop recommendations for resolution.

  • Be ethical.

  • Treat people with respect, keeps commitments, inspire the trust of others, work with integrity and ethically, uphold organizational values, and maintains confidentiality.

  • Have a collaborative leadership style.

  • Be able to influence decision making, facilitate groups with diverse perspectives, lead teams to agreement and resolution, and maintain effective work relationships internally and externally.

  • Possess the ability to adapt to rapidly changing business circumstance and have the ability to thrive in a constantly changing business environment.

  • Effectively lead others during times of change.

Additional Information:

Travel

Approximately 50% travel to include domestic and international destinations to visit Pentair facilities and various supplier locations. Travel as required by car, air, etc.

In this role, the BU Leader will have full P&L ownership, lead a cross-functional team in matrix environment, and be responsible for developing, implementing and leading a focused growth strategy for the Commercial & Infrastructure Flow Business to deliver profitable growth, increased productivity in operations, and improved customer experience. The business includes pump solutions for HVAC, fire suppression, municipal water & wastewater, and industrial applications. The role reports to the President of the Industrial and Flow Technologies Segment. The BU Leader operates in the capacity of a General Manager and will have full accountability for the business P&L. The role is responsible for organizational leadership, strategy development and execution excellence, and growth and profit leadership. The role will lead a complex global business unit in a matrix environment, with four manufacturing locations and multiple product lines, channels, and markets. The BU Leader will be charged with leading the Commercial & Infrastructure Flow team and developing the necessary resources to attain aggressive customer experience, growth and profitability targets, this is a highly visible position and serves as a critical component of the overall Industrial Flow Technologies Segment strategy.
