Plans and delivers seminars, conferences and workshops to UH SBDC small business clients. Manages special projects working closely with subcenter directors, corporate sponsors, trade and professional organizations, industry and community groups.

  • Plans and coordinates program offerings to meet the educational needs of the small business client.

  • Manages projects from concept to evaluation, which includes contracting curriculum development specialists and instructors; selecting appropriate cosponsors and informal marketing avenues; materials production and course evaluation and revision; copyrighting training materials on behalf of the university.

  • Coordinates and directs logistics for training center service delivery, to include oversight of materials preparation, site preparation, instructor confirmation and seminar evaluation collection as required by the SBA.

  • Processes instructor contracts and maintains current documentation on instructor database; serves as logistical contact for instructors.

  • Prepares and submits reports as required by directors regarding effectiveness of training efforts.

  • Review management training reports from regions and provides monthly reports on subcenter training effectiveness.

  • Works closely with subcenter directors to implement and report on special projects.

  • Participates in training center's strategic planning process on an annual basis; informs and trains support staff regarding upcoming events.

  • Serves as liaison to community cosponsors including chambers, trade and professional associations and industry groups; interacts with a variety of community groups in a public relations capacity.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Bachelors and 3 years experience

Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of three (3) years of directly job-related experience. May be eligible for Alternative Workplace Arrangements.

This position is with the University of Houston's Small Business Development Center (SBDC), an off campus program of the UH Bauer College and provides business advising and training assistance to entrepreneurs and small business owners. The ideal candidate for the position will preferably be bilingual (English/Spanish); This position involves working with English and Spanish speaking trainers and class participants, as well as developing training materials in English and Spanish.

The desired candidate will have knowledge of Photoshop, PowerPoint, Canva and possesses excellent written and oral communication skills. The SBDC program is funded through a cooperative agreement with the U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the State of Texas. The continuation

of all SBDC positions are contingent on the continuation of funding from both the SBA and the State of Texas at current levels.

Ideal Candidate will possess:

  • Knowledge of elements of proper instructional designs they relate to adult learners

  • Know Principles of business including marketing, finance, management, social media, and etc.

  • Computer savvy so as to design PowerPoint presentations on a variety of small business topics

  • Marketing know-how to advertise and promote educational events as well as create marketing pieces in Photoshop and Canva

  • Public speaking experience

  • Must have ease and confidence to attend networking events to recruit trainers and speakers

  • Must have creativity to plan new and exciting events that will attract the business community

  • Must be able to work within a team setting

  • Must be able to respond quickly in a fast paced environment

  • Must be able to provide exceptional customer service
