This position requires a four-year college degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Business, Education or Computer Science. This position requires at least five (5) years of related experience including at least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in data reporting and management. An equivalent combination of training and experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
This position requires the ability to assume responsibility and interact and communicate with others effectively. Incumbent must have excellent math, logic and analytical skills as well as be detail-oriented. This position requires knowledge of computer network and personal computer equipment, operating procedures and operating and software systems. The incumbent must have knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of analysis as well as the ability to maintain a pleasant attitude and work with people effectively. This position requires knowledge of Crystal Reports, Oracle SQL and PL/SQL. Experience with Lawson Business Intelligence (LBI) and Infor Lawson/Talent Management products is preferred. The incumbent must have strong Microsoft Excel skills and knowledge of Lawson Spreadsheet Designer. Incumbent must be able to efficiently manage time and resources in completing assigned tasks, to work in a fast-paced environment and to work effectively with minimal supervision. Incumbent must maintain knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
JOB PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
This position performs analysis, support and development of data reports used by the Austin Independent School District (AISD). Incumbent may either work alone or as a member of project teams to identify, review, analyze and modify end-user reporting requirements. The Business Systems Reporting Specialist is responsible for developing and producing complete and accurate reports using the AISD Finance/Human Resources application/database, Time and Attendance application/database and other system databases to meet the expectations and specifications of internal customers. This position consults with internal customers, develops report requirements, develops reports and maintains report documentation. Incumbent interacts heavily with numerous organizational entities and relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. The position works with minimal supervision, typically reporting to a manager or head of a unit/department.
Evaluate user requests and output requirements for Financial, Human Resources and Time & Attendance reports.
Review and analyze report problems including system documentation and production output to identify solutions and/or make appropriate recommendations.
Develop report specifications and create new reports or update existing reports based on specifications.
Develop test plans and sample input data to test adequacy of reports, ensure reporting performance conforms to specifications and assist with user acceptance testing.
Work with Manager, Programmers and System Support Specialists to troubleshoot and resolve report-related problems.
Work with System Analysts, Programmers and System Administrator on software modifications, updates and implementations of new functionality of Business Systems to test, troubleshoot issues and optimize performance of systems.
Troubleshoot issues, conduct research, communicate with vendors, and perform or request fixes on reports and related application issues.
Develop user-training materials and documentation for reports, application modifications and guidelines for users.
Develop and maintain a functional understanding of relationships between system fields, interfaces and database tables.
Manage report-related MIS requests through analysis, specification development, report creation, testing, user acceptance and publishing to requesting user group.
Develop Ad hoc reporting and special projects as required.
Research and provide resolution for Tier 2 help desk trouble tickets as assigned.
Support System Analysts and System Support Specialists in report-related issues.
Organize, plan, lead and participate in user meetings as required.
Develop and submit status updates and other documents.
Attend staff and other meetings as required.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED:
Perform other related duties as assigned; however, all employees are expected to comply with lawful directives in rare situations driven by need where a team effort is required.
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is performed in sometimes crowded and noisy environments under short deadlines and dealing with all levels of staff (classified, professional and administrative). This position requires sitting, standing, moving and lifting. This position will require moderate travel by personal vehicle to various campus locations. This position may involve rare exposure to blood or body fluids. Regular attendance is required for this position.
PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS:
This position reports directly to the Business Systems Manager. Incumbent will have frequent contact with administrators and other AISD staff.
