The Absence Management Business Systems Analyst for The Hartford Group Insurance partners with business stakeholders to define and develop immediate and future technology improvements within absence products. They are directly accountable for working with the Team Product Owner, product management and other absence business stakeholders to develop and prioritize business requirements to effectively address technology program priorities while maintaining technical integrity. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated, self-managing resource whom will join a fast, innovative, fun agile development team. The individual will be responsible for leading the requirements gathering process with through the development cycle while working directly with the Team Product Owner, Developers, and Quality Assurance staff to obtain feedback and perfect the execution of the business vision. Key accountabilities include:

  • Partnership with the Team Product Owner, Scrum Team and Stakeholders to consistently perform analysis and translates business needs to create high-quality Business Requirements and Functional Specifications documentation. The work is expected to be completed within specified time frames to solve most complex problems (multiple interfaces with other systems across multiple business units) considering all impacted components from an end-to-end perspective.

  • Ownership in documenting and perfecting Business Requirements across a domain or program.

  • Ensure that the current & proposed business Process Flows are complete and accurate as needed to support the Requirements Specification documentation

  • Works across the domain and programs to partner with delivery leadership to help identify scope and impact of projects within a domain or program

  • Partner with the Team Product Owner to ensure consistent business concepts are applied through the development cycle through the business requirements.

  • Act as Application Subject Matter Expert and advise the Team Product Owner, users, and stakeholders.

  • Effectively supporting IT activities (ex. Support triage meetings, defect resolution, customer implementation, Scrum Team meetings )

  • Contributes, on an as needed basis, to the Application Design and Information Design Model through effective interfacing with application and information architectural resources.


  • Minimum of 7 years Business Analyst experience

  • Minimum of 3 years active Agile Team experience

  • Must possess sound knowledge of structured IT application development lifecycles and methodologies inclusive of Use Case tools

  • Strong experience in the Leave of Absence, Disability products & Agile projects

  • Ability to work within a very collaborative team as a leader and individual contributor is a must!

  • Sound knowledge and experience in Agile development methodology

  • SaFE experience is a plus

  • Proven track record in collaborating with business partners to define business requirements and priorities for technology solutions.

  • Demonstrated negotiation skills

  • Must have the ability to influence without authority

  • One or more of the following preferred: Certified Scrum Product Owner, Certified Scrum Professional, or Certified Scrum Master

  • Proven project management skills

  • Excellent communication skills.

Minimum Required Qualifications for Consideration: * Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or equivalent. * 5 years or more of experience in continuous improvement management with a focus on strategic process design. * Both technology and non-technology based process/project management experience. * Strong general management business background including skills in communication, presentation and reporting. * Highly developed interpersonal skills including influence beyond formal authority. * Strong collaboration skills. * Non-direct report coaching/mentoring/training experience required; change management experience required. * Knowledge and experience with SFDC system and functionality. * Must pass a successful background check.
