Our 10-week Summer Internship Program is an ideal way for both undergraduate and graduate students to gain real-life work experience while learning what a career at Blue Shield of California can offer. The Business Systems Analyst Intern will support Finance Transformation Team efforts centering around standardization, automation, and innovation. Responsible for analysis of business needs and requirements to support design and optimal technology solutions improving efficiency and transformation for enterprise strategic and operational portfolios. Provides business support expertise and manages stakeholder groups in support of requirements delivery efforts to identify, interpret and produce business requirements deliverables based on enterprise architecture landscape. Acts as trusted advisor to business stakeholders and groups by providing technical and strategic direction to identify and address business issues and opportunities. Supports the end to end project management life cycle in all phases including people, process and tools for requirements management delivery.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Lead complex data analysis, needs assessments, and cost/benefit analysis to align information technology solutions with business initiatives.

  • Formulate and define complex systems scope and objectives through research combined with an understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements.

  • Develop or modify information systems. Includes analysis of business and user needs, documenting requirements for complex or new systems.

  • Lead research, impact analysis and determine the level of effort to complete requirements elicitation and defining the breakdown of tasks, resource loading, issue tracking and resolution management.

  • Drives consensus to identify a desired future state that addresses a business problem utilizing multiple analytic methodologies and business process modeling.

  • Make recommendations to management on significant issues.

Ability to:

  • Take on new system assignments;

  • Learn, obtain structured and ad hoc training on vendor products/releases;

  • Adapt to changing technology by acquiring new skills (i.e. by attending continuing educational courses/trainings);

  • Create data flow diagrams;

  • Develop structured test scenarios, test cases, and perform accurate testing with documented results;

  • Use productivity tools for analysis, data behavior, and data mining;

  • Work in a team environment on tasks and projects of varying complexity;

  • Manage time effectively and meet deadlines;

  • Make presentations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of directly related professional experience supporting business operations utilizing advanced business applications and data tools

  • Knowledge of Oracle Fusion product suite, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Human Capital Management (HCM) software, and/or Healthcare Industry highly desirable.

  • Experience employing project management, process improvement, and business analysis methodologies

  • Previous experience and pursuing MBA degree

Key Responsibilities: * Analyze business scenarios that may potentially be solved by implementation of automated systems and/or modifications to business processes * Lead business stakeholders and other business systems analysts thru the business analysis Lifecycle * Provide expertise in identification, evaluation, design, development, and deployment of systems and/or processes * Play key role – as part of project team or Maintenance and Enhancements (M&E) activities – in delivery of solutions that are cost effective, sustainable, and meet business requirements * Perform knowledge transfer and provide ongoing leadership, to support project go-live and beyond, operations and support activities * Be accountable for documentation, which may include, but is not limited to:User (Business) * Document business process flow diagrams, training documentation and/or work instructions * Analyze/document high-level requirements (scope) * Analyze/document detailed functional requirements and business rules (develop use cases) * Provide consultation to customers regarding enhancement/improvement of current solutions and implementation of new solutions – both systems and processes * Facilitate and/or support customers in user acceptance test (UAT) planning and execution * Participate in and advise roadmap discussions and be a key member of vendor assessment teams * Drive resolution of business or systems issues * Establish productive collaboration with Project Managers, Architects, Operations Teams, Technical Leads, and Software Quality Assurance roles in the definition of the project's scope, risks identification and support of the implementation of the IT solutions * Ideally, reach a level of engagement and partnering where IT could proactively identify Business opportunities for our partners even before they recognize the business need. Requirements/Qualifications: * Bachelor's degree in Informatics, business or similar or equivalent experience * 8+ years experience analyzing business requirements and leading information systems projects through the full software development lifecycle (SDLC) * Experience delivering technical solutions across various business groups * Demonstrated excellence in critical thinking and analysis, documentation, group facilitation and presentation skills * Pharma, Life sciences industry & commercial business and process knowledge strongly preferred * Experience with Pharma data sources (e.g. Health Care Provider, Health Care * Organizations, sales data, financial data) desirable * Ability to provide guidance and oversight to less senior BSA's, and guide contractors to ensure long term capabilities and support requirements are met. Proven ability to operate as a Functional Team Lead on large projects is a plus * Demonstrated success handling initiatives of high complexity and risk. * Working knowledge of current contract management software solutions and capabilities widely used in the pharmaceutical industry * Ability to lead the discussion to identify problems, alternatives and solutions * Experience with ETL, Business Process Management, and Salesforce is a plus This position is not open for relocation.
