Business Support Specialist - BSA Compliance Unit

Salary: $23.25/hour + DOE

Administers various delegated assignments and/or responsibilities of limited risk and moderate complexity, coordinates allocated resources, identifies and manages risk by performing the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Performs the assigned responsibilities within predetermined scope, budget, schedule, and inherent risk; identifies appropriate resources, training needs, and risk management strategies; manages day-to-day activities and coordinates with bank's management, end users, and vendors.

  • Assists assignment owners in developing implementation plan (as necessary), assembling teams, and coordinates individual responsibilities to ensure timely completion of related tasks; communicates with functional area managers regarding status of assignments, including costs and scheduling.

  • Tracks and follows up on outstanding items to ensure objectives are met and assists assignment owners with quality assurance audits.

  • Assists in performing workflow analysis to identify labor-intensive tasks and inefficiencies, and recommends automation and process changes to streamline workflows and to increase resource usage efficiency.

  • Assists in developing of functional area's plans, goals, objectives, budgets, and procedures.

  • Stays abreast of pertinent federal and state regulations and interacts with compliance staff to ensure assignment components are compliant with all applicable federal and state regulations.

  • Creates reports and presentations for all levels of management and may direct the work of others.

  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum: Bachelor's degree in a business related field and two years progressively responsible business operations experience; or four years progressively responsible business operations experience; or equivalent combination of education/training and experience.

Preferred: Banking or related financial industry experience. Project management experience.


Advanced word processing, database, spreadsheet software experience, and excellent written and verbal communication skills required; ability to think critically, leverage business metrics, effectively manage own and other's time and priorities and resources required; experience using project management software preferred. Ability to handle highly confidential information, frequent deadlines, and time constraints required.


Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, customers and the general public.


Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.


Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Coordinate and process all deceased member claims for the credit union including establishing Estate accounts. Assume increasing responsibilities as experience, tenure and training demonstrates. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide support and administration of special account types such as IRA, HSA, trust, business, guardian/conservator and representative payee accounts. Administer the Notary, Medallion Guarantee, and Signature Validation programs; provide support and answer questions. Maintain and process declaration of loss requests, returned check orders, and safe deposit box leases. Research, collect, and process information for deceased member claims. Coordinate and communicate with designated representatives and family members of the decedents. Coordinate and communicate with branch staff and appropriate business units and vendors regarding deceased claims. Establish new account relationships, Estate accounts, and Fiduciary accounts and transfer assets as required. Reconcile assigned department general ledgers. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Creditable Experience in Lieu of Education: Not applicable. Experience/Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. General account knowledge or balancing experience. Strong organizational skills with a strict attention to detail. Ability to work independently, handle a variety of tasks, and self-proof work. Proficient in computer skills with office software. Must be able to directly communicate with members in a compassionate and professional manner. Tenure: Operations Specialist II, category 14, requires six months tenure in the Operations Specialist I, category 15, position and performance that meets or exceeds expectations. Operations Specialist III, category 13, requires six months tenure in the Operations Specialist II, category 14, position and performance that meets or exceeds expectations. Senior Operations Specialist, category 12, requires six months tenure in the Operations Specialist III, category 13, position and performance that meets or exceeds expectations.
