Our Employment Connections division, WorkSource Yakima County office is looking to hire a Business Services, WorkSource Specialist 4 (WSS4) In-training. In this role, you will provide direct services to job seekers and employers both inside the WorkSource office and out in the community, providing integrated services to all customers. Your ability to build relationships with your clients will be critical in building a collaborative environment. You will attend community meetings and events representing the workforce partnership process, communicating and working closely with internal and external partners, and conducting vigorous outreach to employers who are seeking qualified workers. Additionally you will be relied upon and responsible for the coordination, integration and delivery of a comprehensive array of "designed" employment and training services to job seekers and employers.

Please Note: This recruitment will be used to hire at the WorkSource Specialist 3 level. The incumbents will be required to successfully complete a training plan in order to promote to the goal class of WSS4. Salary ranges for these levels are:

  • WorkSource Specialist 3: $38,220 - $50,004 annually depending on qualifications.

  • WorkSource Specialist 4: $42,060 - $55,152 annually depending on qualifications.

Duties

In this role you will be conducting outreach to employers for 50% of your schedule to support local job fairs, "employer of the day", hiring events, temporary agencies, and employment related workshops and job clubs. You will also work to educate businesses on the registration and job posting processes both by in-person demonstration and by awareness of online tutorials. You'll perform job development to promote the hiring of program participants, develop and monitor on-the-job, work experience, and other training contracts.

Some of what you'll enjoy doing:

  • Contacting potential employers to identify business needs and determine job opportunities for customers.

  • Conducting needs assessment of businesses employee needs.

  • Collaborating with local business outreach teams on events, outplacement and recruitment activities through area offices.

  • Developing and sustaining relationships with colleges and training providers to ensure that job seekers and businesses are aware of all available resources and services.

  • Participating with other WS staff and partners in developing local service delivery strategies to maximize outreach.

  • Promoting and educating businesses and hiring entities about how to integrate WorkSourcewa.com into their local/regional recruitment efforts to increase market share.

  • Building collaborative community relationships, serving as liaison to management and partners.

  • Partnering with employers to provide relevant resources and support to increase hiring of locally trained talent.

  • Working with ESD Communications to develop professional marketing materials that showcase WorkSource resources for employers with employers and businesses.

  • Utilizing Social Media to maximize outreach connections.

  • Tracking employment opportunities through WorkSourcewa.com and other on line employment services such as Craigslist, Indeed, Linked in, Facebook, etc. bringing forth those opportunities to local offices.

  • Participating in a dynamic team environment to support lean practices and work to develop our business model for putting the "Customer First".

  • Be highly engaged in your professional development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience in workforce development, social or human resource services, public relations, or public contact work, such as: unemployment insurance, education, public relations, benefits programs, insurance claims, law enforcement, and banking, OR a combination of education and/or relevant experience.

OR A Master's degree will substitute for one year of the required experience.

OR One year as a WorkSource Specialist 2 or equivalent class within the Employment Security Department, or another state's Employment Security agency.

The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking qualified individuals for a Cook 2 permanent full-time position located at Ahtanum View Work Release in Yakima, Washington. This position may be filled at the Cook 1 (In-Training) level - depending on qualifications and experience ($2,353.00 - $3,031.00 per month) Must be available to work days, swing, graveyard, split, rotational shifts, weekends and holidays. Must be willing and able to work overtime to maintain operations. Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all offenders can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society. Duties At AVWR, an adult correctional facility, this Cook 2 position prepares food on an assigned shift, in support of the Department of Corrections' Offender Food Service Program and its Mission: The Department of Corrections in collaboration with its criminal justice partners, victims, citizens, and other stakeholders will enhance community safety, reduce victimization, and hold offenders accountable through the administration of criminal sanctions and effective correctional programs. Responsibilities include: * Preparation and service of food. * Perform inventory and reporting tasks. * Train and instruct offenders in general food services cleaning practices. * Monitor offenders while in the kitchen/dining area. WORK SETTING INCLUDING HAZARDS Work is performed in a correctional facility kitchen area where offenders have access to knives, sharp utensils, kitchen equipment and other food service equipment that could be used as weapons. The kitchen area is hot, humid and noisy with exposure to steam, fumes, and odors from cooking and at times, cleaning chemicals. There is the potential to slip on wet floors or where food has been spilled and receive cuts from knives and burns from steam, hot foods, stove, hot grease and water. This position will lift, move, and/or carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted. Position includes continual standing and walking; frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting and turning; and occasionally kneeling and lifting or moving objects weighing over 40 pounds with the assistance of carts, lifting devices or other workers. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Cook 2: Two years' cooking experience in a large-scale food service or culinary operation. Completion of course in large-scale cooking may be substituted for one year of experience. OR One year as a Cook 1 in State service. In addition to the above; Ability to: * cook a variety of foods * follow written and oral instructions * write clearly, factually, and concisely * read, understand, estimate quantities and follow recipes with minimal waste * effectively communicate verbally * schedule and organize daily work * operate and demonstrate the safe handling and operation of kitchen equipment, e.g., mixers, ovens, choppers, slicers, grills, steam kettles * maintain security, order and discipline of offenders supervised * role model appropriate behavior to offenders * coach, train, and provide constructive feedback to offenders in general kitchen cleaning practices Knowledge of: * a variety of foods * alternate food preparation methods i.e., cook/chill and cook/freeze * basic arithmetic, e.g., adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing * food service practices, food preparation and production methods, and procedures * food service record keeping * HACCP protocols, practices and tools for food service Understanding of: * weights and measures and differentiate between applications * rethermalization of food process/procedures Cook 1 (In-Training) One year of experience in food preparation or cooking. Completion of course in large scale cooking may be substituted for experience.
