The Facebook Open Source team is looking to hire a Business Program Manager to help support its continually growing open source program. The ideal candidate will be responsible for helping guide new project launches, unblocking internal engineers and external community members, managing social media communications and organizing community events.
The Facebook Open Source program exists to build community through open source technology. As one of the largest open source programs in the world, we drive multiple programs to help accomplish that goal. The Facebook Open Source Team is looking for someone to be the first line of support for the open source program internally, run our social communications program where we utilize social media to share our program happenings, and lastly to organize events which allows us to showcase our open source projects and technologies to recruiting potential employees of Facebook.
Our open source program is successful in large part because our interactions with developers, in various venues. These interactions serve many purposes, including showcasing our open source projects and technologies to recruiting potential employees of Facebook. As Business Program Manager, you will be the key point of contact between the open source team, various recruiters and developer marketing to ensure that the open source team is aware of all conferences, events and meetups that are being established outside of our direct team to ensure that we have an appropriate presence.
The liaison will also help plan and run Facebook Open Source hosted events and meetups. As one of the largest open source programs in the world, we utilize social media to share our program happenings, but also to understand what is happening in open source in the industry. This includes updates from employees at Facebook who are project owners, updates from other open source programs or individuals who use open source.
Our team researches and curates the most interesting open source happenings, both within and outside of Facebook, in bi-weekly rollups for our internal open source users. The social media curator will use various social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, Hacker News, Facebook, etc.) to determine interesting news and updates in the open source community. The curator will publish their findings for review and posting within Facebook.
In order to maintain a high quality open source program, we need to help build a community around our open source projects and projects we contribute to. The Open Source Developer Advocacy oncall generalist plays a key role in this by helping guide new open source project launches and working to unblock external contributors. Additionally, the oncall is responsible for provisioning third-party open source project contributors.
The oncall generalist will be the first line of defense when tasks and emails come to our team. The generalist will attempt to resolve the issue or assign the issue to the appropriate entity when it cannot be immediately resolved. The assigned entities will be the second-level oncall on the open source developer advocacy team, legal or any other appropriate entity.
BUSINESS PROGRAM MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with open source project teams and developer advocacy technical leads to identify key conferences and lobby for participation and Facebook sponsorship.
Help plan open source branded events and meetups where we will showcase our program or projects within our program. These events can include in-person or virtual events (e.g., podcasts).
Be a voice for the open source team if there are cross functional discussions around upcoming events or recruitment opportunities.
Be the point of contact for procuring open source swag for events. In addition, determine new and unique ways to showcase our brand through swag.
Work closely with the events team to plan out booth designs and strategize the possible reuse for other events.
Work closely with presenters to make their content reusable and presentable for multiple audiences, including Developer Circles.
Own and drive a master open source event calendar, possibly even organized by technology category.
Use various social media platforms to research and curate essential and relevant open source news and topics.
Help create the bi-weekly open source rollup that is posted to our internal Facebook group.
Work with open source technology owners and communications to develop posts for Twitter, Facebook and other social media outlets on behalf of Facebook Open Source. RT/Share high quality content produced by others.
Work with key open source projects to help form an effective social media marketing strategy.
Be the first line of defense for all oncall tasks.
Take appropriate action on tasks and emails that are assigned to the oncall.
Attempt to resolve all issues or assign to the appropriate entity for resolution.
Work closely with the open source tools engineering team to identify any tooling improvements to increase oncall efficiency.
Experience working with people of all levels, including executive and C-suite level
Experience managing a high visibility, cross-functional program
Experience in managing social media accounts
Knowledge about GitHub and open source
