Main Purpose of the Position:

This position is part of Genentech's EHS function. EHS plays an essential role in protecting Genentech's right to operate and serving as a steward for the Genentech culture embracing prevention and problem solving to reduce risks and protect our people, environment and pipeline on our SSF campus and network of places. The Senior Business Optimization Analyst will identify the strategic direction and support the implementation of the EHS management system, business process improvements, and training for the Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) department in Site Services.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Partner with members of the EHS team and business stakeholders to understand, define and deliver business process improvements to continuously improve EHS business performance and the customer experience.

  • Develop a business process improvement strategy and training roadmap for EHS stakeholders, ensuring EHS vision, strategies and goals are realized.

  • Lead and facilitate EHS continuous improvement workshops to deliver significant return on investment (through cost/time savings, quality improvements, and/or customer satisfaction improvement) in support of business objectives.

  • Manage and maintain the EHS Management System, ensuring it is current and aligned with standard industry practice. Collaborate with EHS LT members and business stakeholders to define, manage, implement and support continuous improvements with an eye toward simplification for users.

  • Partner with Site Services SBO to identify and deliver cross-functional business process improvements and internal and external EHS training programs to improve the customer experience and ensure business continuity. This work will include estimating work efforts, defining milestones, and managing resources.

  • Research new continuous improvement approaches and incorporate into EHS strategy and roadmaps as applicable. Accountable for shaping EHS culture via continuous improvement and training within EHS and client groups.

  • Represent EHS as an active member of the Site Services Training Advisory Group (AG) and Site Services Continuous Improvement Steering Committee. This may also include participation in associated forums, initiatives, and/or events.

  • Track progress, resolve dependencies, evaluate risks and communicate status proactively with EHS LT and business stakeholders regarding progress, issues, constraints and resolutions for projects.

  • Lead continuous improvement methodology education in EHS, including educating others internally and/or externally on key trends and/or factors that influence EHS strategies, technologies, plans, activities and resources.

  • Implement best-practice methodologies, processes, systems, tools, metrics and other resources to optimize program/project success and return on investment.

  • Coaches and mentors others in continuous improvement, training and the EHS management system.

  • Serves as needed as a Safety Officer during disaster/emergency response and recovery efforts. May be required to serve as EHS Advisor (technical expert) for the emergency response team during company-related emergencies.

Qualifications:
Education, Experience, Knowledge and

Skills:

(Minimum requirements)

  • Education: BS in technology, engineering or business management, Master's degree in technology, engineering or business management is a plus.

  • BA or BS with 8+ years experience in Project Management and Process Improvements, including successful experience on a range of short (>3 months) and longer-term/more complex (> 12 month) projects.

  • Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device or high tech industries is desired.

  • LEAN Green Belt Certification and at least 3 years of experience leading, facilitating, and delivering green belt projects. Black Belt Certification is a plus.

  • Certification as a project management professional (PMP) highly desired.

  • Good knowledge of agile principles and methodology.

  • Strong experience partnering with the business, developing roadmaps and strategies.

  • Proven track record of organizing, managing and delivering business improvement projects, as well as the ability to understand, educate and influence others in LEAN, 5S, Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping and other continuous improvement methods.

  • Passion for business process improvement and commitment to creating a superb client experience.

  • Familiar with EHS IT applications, including database systems such as Tableau and training systems such as Cornerstone.

  • Familiar with OSHA, EPA, DOT, NIOSH, FDA and other regulatory requirements applicable to cGMP and non-GMP environments.

  • This position is not eligible for relocation.

This position will work closely with EHS program managers, business partners and clients to assist in the development, implementation and maintenance of a variety of EHS programs, projects and initiatives. These efforts are intended to balance protection against risk with the need to deliver with speed and add value to the business. Under general oversight and direction this individual will use their independent analysis skills and judgment to deliver in support of EHS activities which may include: * Inspections and assessments * Program audits * Training development and delivery * Metrics tracking and reporting * Assisting others to conduct incident investigations * Developing corrective/preventive action plans with clients The ideal candidate will have experience in the practical application of multi-disciplinary EHS programs, work with a high sense of urgency, possess excellent communication and teamwork skills and be resourceful and eager to develop.
