The Business Development Manager will be directly responsible for developing new and lucrative strategic partnerships and for closely managing existing partnerships for CNN Digital's commerce initiatives.
This role will be focused on growing CNN Digital's commerce business, including: ideating and developing new opportunities, onboarding new merchants in a variety of affiliate platforms, negotiating commission increases, developing and pitching paid content packages, and responding to RFPs.
The Business Development Manager will also be responsible for regularly updating CNN Digital leadership on the status of the business as well as sharing new opportunities that should be explored and pursued within the commerce ecosystem.
Network with new and existing affiliate account teams and present monetization opportunities to the CNN Underscored editorial staff
Identify new trends and developments in the commerce space and develop strategies for capitalizing on these trends
Develop paid content opportunities and pitch to external affiliate partners in order to drive to business and revenue goals
Aggressively negotiate merchant commission rates
Present business performance status to external affiliate partners while also ideating on additional growth opportunities
Develop new and creative ways to identify areas of business expansion and efficiencies and take initiative to execute on them
Develop and manage key partnerships and present quarterly business reviews and new growth opportunities
Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics, Marketing or related field
A minimum of 3 years of affiliate marketing experience required
Experience working in a corporate strategy, business development or marketing function in a media or technology corporation or at a leading strategy consulting firm Competency
Strong understanding of digital media landscape and tools
Entrepreneurially minded and highly proactive self-starter
Comfortable in a sales and account management role; ability to multi-task and effectively develop and manage a number of high-performing partners
High level of competence in presentations and delivering insights in a clear and coherent way - High competency levels in prevailing digital media analytics tools (Affiliate dashboards, Omniture, etc.)
Excellent strategic and creative/innovative thinking, with particular emphasis on evaluating new opportunities
Ability to provide guidance on strategy for developing, offering or acquiring digital media products and services
Superior communication skills with the ability to interact cross-functionally at all organizational levels and externally with business partners, including exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills
Ability to perform duties under minimal supervision while exercising discretion and independent, sound judgment
Must excel in a fast-paced, results-oriented work environment
Strong relationship builder with both internal and external partners
