The Faculty of Arts and Sciences are the largest academic unit at Rutgers-Camden, delivering a wide array of degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's, and doctoral levels in the humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and fine arts. The Faculty of Arts and Sciences includes three schools: the College of Arts and Sciences, University College, and the Graduate School.

Posting Summary

The Business Manager I reports to the Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration at Rutgers University-Camden, with a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FASC) at Rutgers University-Camden. The FASC is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University-Camden, and delivers RU-C's widest array of degree programs at the baccalaureate, masters and doctoral levels. The school has 18 different academic departments, offers an array of programs and centers, and is a hub of faculty and student research.

The Business Manager I is the chief business officer for the school, and is responsible for the overall effective operations of the business functions and works closely with the Dean, academic administration, and school faculty and staff to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of general business processes related to accounting, budgeting, expense management, procurement, as well as human resource management and payroll. The Business Manager I works in cooperation with the Senior Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration and the Dean of the FASC to forecast, develop, and manage the school's operating budget, develop and manage routine reports related to the budget and financial and business resources, and will assume responsibility for safeguarding the school and university assets.

This position will communicate with a wide variety of stakeholders, relative to items previously described, both internal and external to the university. The Business Manager I is responsible for the management, organization, direction and administration of the daily activities of the FASC business office, consisting of a staff of three.

The Business Manager will be responsible to maintain an understanding of all University policies and procures related to finance, human resource and operations management and will work closely with many campus partners to provide leadership within the school. Typically, the incumbent will work closely and grow relationships with the RU-C Budget & Finance Office, including Grants and Student Accounting, Financial Aid, and Human Resources.

In addition, the Business Manager will work closely with university partners in various finance, human resource, and operations management departments at the central level of the university, including but not limited to the University Controller, Internal Audit, Procurement, Payroll, Institutional Planning and Operations, and other related teams. In addition, the Business Manager requires an ability to interpret and educate colleagues within the academic unit on the policies and procedures as noted, and has a responsibility to ensure that the faculty and staff in the school are knowledgeable and compliant as appropriate.

The position provides or oversees high-level budgeting, forecasting, financial and business modeling, and variance analysis; overseeing the financial operations, financial planning and analysis; administration of policies, compliance, purchasing, payroll and oversight of transactions utilizing the University ERP systems; preparation and monitoring of the FASC working budget with monthly closings, and preparation of special reports as needed for assessment and evaluation purposes.

In addition to the oversight of the day-to-day business operations of the school, the Business Manager will also be responsible to improve upon the business processes and practices; responds to and prepares reports in support of university and campus finance offices; and will provide guidance and training to faculty, staff and administrators as required within FASC on university financial systems, processes, and operations as necessary. Within FASC, the Business Manager will regularly communicate to department chairs and program/center directors regarding the overall finances of their departments and programs.

They will also be responsible to work closely with the Dean, Associate Deans, and Director of Operations to ensure that the operations and business practices of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences functions efficiently as it related to matters of financial stewardship. The Business Manager may be responsible for special projects and initiatives as they relate to the business operations of the school.

Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week 37.5 Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024.

Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience

Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that fully demonstrates knowledge and understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and practices. It also requires a minimum of eight years relevant experience, with a demonstrated track record of progressive growth, that indicates successful leadership and management skills.

Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong communication skills, both written and oral are essential. Advanced computer literacy and a customer service attitude are also essential.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required. Must be skilled in understanding database structure and have the ability to manipulate data imports and exports for financial reporting and analysis. Ability to work independently and professionally with limited supervision while exercising sound accounting judgement is mandatory for this position. The ability to manage staff effectively, work closely with a variety of personnel and assist them with their daily problems/questions is a critical component of this position.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree accounting, finance, business administration or a related field, and/or CPA preferred. Experience working in a higher education environment strongly preferred.

An in-depth understanding of the current Rutgers University Systems: Oracle, EPBCS, PeopleSoft and Jaggaer preferred. Strong preference will be given to candidates with knowledge of Responsibility Center Management, Tableau, Oracle ERP Cloud, and Oracle Enterprise Budget Planning Cloud software.

Prolonged computer utilization and long periods in sedentary positioning.
