Job Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing the Business Line of Credit (BLOC) portfolio for the Business Lending group. This individual is responsible for engaging with prospective and current commercial borrowers/brokers to originate business lines of credit for MACU. The position is responsible for hands-on management of the BLOC's, including managing borrowing bases, draw requests analysis/processing and budget analysis/oversight. The position is responsible for owning a member relationship while providing a positive member experience and high level of expertise to help ensure all business lines of credit are actively managed and within lending approvals and credit union and NCUA policy. The position reports to the AVP of Commercial Real Estate.

To be effective, an individual must be able to perform each job duty successfully:

  • Oversees the BLOC product and portfolio for MACU's Business Lending group. This is inclusive of the portfolio's growth and credit quality.

  • Solicits and develops new business, takes applications and processes preliminary documentation for BLOC requests. Explains loan products and related credit criteria in such a manner as to elicit positive responses from members. Makes retention and development calls on existing and potential new members for both loans and deposits.

  • Manages BLOC process to include: ordering and reviewing third-party reports, inspections, evaluations, disbursements and reviewing terms and conditions of business lines of credit, business member sales calls, financial package gathering, underwriting, closing and ongoing servicing.

  • Loan origination expected to be at, or above, mid-level production levels of the CRE and SBA teams, and comparative top levels of the market.

  • Evaluates credit data, cash flow, financial statements and inventory/accounts receivable aging to determine the credit worthiness of applicants. Educates members regarding credit union products and services and how they can better serve their individual financial needs. Communicates reason for denial to applicants when their loan request has been denied.

  • Works closely with Business Lending loan officers and Business Services business account executives. This includes, but not limited to, joint sales calls, managing member and broker relationships and responsible for new loan origination.

  • Exhibits MACU Way Behaviors and Leadership qualities. Focuses on coaching BLOC coordinator and any other employee on the BLOC team.

  • Presents and helps prepare credit proposals including recommendations for pricing, terms and structure to approving authority(ies).

  • Understands personal and business financial statement analysis (income statement and balance sheet), cash flow, business/personal tax returns, inventory listings and accounts receivables as well as in utilization of the credit union's software analytical tools.

  • Has an expert understanding of borrowing bases, C&I valuation methods and cash flow models.

  • Works alongside lending support team members to maintain a high quality of work and efficiency in operations to ensure approved loans are originated.

  • Ensures that members' requests and questions are promptly addressed and resolved. Makes member satisfaction a priority.

  • Provides regular updates in the Business Lending policy and procedures documents as it pertains to business lines of credit.

  • Conducts collateral inspections as necessary.

  • Reviews maturing loan reports and is proactive in completing prospective loan decisioning.

  • May assist with the collection of delinquent accounts.

  • Completes required pipeline, incentive and related reports and records production accurately and promptly.

  • Attends and participates in sales and loan committee meetings as required.

  • Effective presentation skills when presenting a loan to Loan Committee or the appropriate individual with loan authority.

  • Attends assigned training sessions and stays current on new procedures and policies.

  • Establishes and maintains effective and professional business relations with members, third parties and other trade professionals.

  • Develops sales abilities to find commercial real estate sales opportunities for the Credit Union.

  • Coordinates with Loan Processor to ensure efficient and accurate underwriting, smooth and timely loan closings and payoffs, renewals of loans on the maturing list from the standpoint of analyzing tax/financial data and updating the credit as applicable.

  • Identifies critical risks or project setbacks through careful analysis of submitted documentation, such as budget allocations, UCC filings, collateral inspections, etc. Work with vendors, inspectors, attorneys, internal collections team members and member to acquire necessary documentation and resolve any loan issues that arise.

  • Performs annual reviews of large credits as required by Loan Policy so as to determine trends and make observations and recommendations for risk grade changes as appropriate.

  • Serves as primary point of contact for borrowers and third-party vendors to resolve BLOC-related questions and issues.

  • Thorough understanding of all areas of Business Lending: Commercial Real Estate (CRE), SBA, Construction, and all related policies and procedures.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience

Minimum of five years of commercial lending experience required (eight years lending experience preferred).

Education

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in business, marketing, finance, economics or related field. Education will be verified. An additional five years in a progressive financial setting may be substituted for a relevant degree.

Computer/Office Equipment Skills

  • Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

  • Experience with analytical and reporting software preferred

  • Demonstrated experience with Symitar and a loan origination system is preferred

Language Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly express ideas, methodology, results and recommendations verbally, in writing and through insightful reports and graphic illustrations

  • Demonstrated ability to document outcomes and present information in a manner appropriate for key stakeholders and all levels of the organization.
