Joining the Unum Summer Intern Program is a great way to enhance your business acumen, gain meaning professional experience and acquire deep insight into the insurance industry. After orientation and on-boarding, you'll join one of our business areas, where you will be assigned meaningful, challenging project work, that will have an immediate and important impact on our business. You'll work on collaborative projects, while also having ownership of individual work, that will push you to learn and grow, as a professional.

Our interns participate in weekly workshops where they will learn more about professional development skills and about Unum and how we do business. You will also participate in a cross-functional business case challenge with other interns, to solve for real business needs, which culminates with an end of summer presentation to key business leaders.

Interns selected for this program, will initially be hired into the Summer Intern Program generally and then will be placed with a specific team in the early Spring. This 10-week 'intern immersion' has many different departments that an intern can join, such as Finance, Accounting, Benefits, Business Operations, Communications, Human Resources, and Underwriting, to name a few!

We are looking for individuals to bring their curiosity and individuality to Unum, where you'll develop professional skills, get hands-on experience that will help you grow both personally and professionally.

  • Join an Employee Network and work with the Office of Inclusion & Diversity to help advance Unum's inclusion journey and represent the full spectrum of what makes us unique

  • Earn college credit for your internship. (Faculty/Hiring Manager pre-approvals are required)


  • Candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college degree program. Preference given to rising seniors and first year graduate students.

  • Required GPA of 3.0

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities and on-campus involvement

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills

  • Demonstrated ability to think both strategically and tactically

  • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel software applications

  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed on project work.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Intern must be available to work 40 hours per week during regular business hours.

  • The internship program starts in early June 2022 and will last about 10-12 weeks.

You will serve groups of elementary, middle or high school students Monday-Friday and some weekends- an average service day lasting 9 hours. You will gain valuable professional and personal experience and acquire skills in civic-engagement, teamwork and leadership during the service term. You could potentially serve in any one of our partner schools from Maryland to Connecticut- all of which share our mission and values. The ideal candidate for the GO AmeriCorps Fellowship is a college graduate who is team-oriented, passionate about service and who believes that all young people deserve a high-quality education. Key Responsibilities Instruct for Mastery - You will deliver individualized small-group instruction to students in math and/or English Language Arts for an average of four (45 minute) periods per day, and provide in-class or curriculum support. Mentor for Leadership - You will support students' social emotional growth in small mentor groups. As a Fellow, you will cultivate relationships with families through weekly communication, ensuring open conversations about student progress. Develop a Community - You will support to develop an enriching school environment by being present during arrival, dismissal, lunch and transition of students as well as school and community-based events.
