At Pinnacol Assurance, we're bringing forth a revolution in caring for employers and employees across Colorado. We are seeking a Programmer/Data Engineer that is versatile and passionate about creating revolutionary solutions.
You will work with medical, claims, and policy related data that comes in a variety of formats structured and some unstructured to extract, transform, stage and load it in databases to support our Business Intelligence team. This data is used to deliver a variety of advanced analytical insights to customers and decision makers throughout the organization. As a Business Intelligence Programmer/Data Engineer, you will work with internal teams to:

Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy working closely with a team of analysts, programmers and others in our IT department (data scientists, data engineers, system admins, database administrators, cyber security engineers, project managers, tech support and quality assurance analysts).
Demonstrate an understanding of data modeling, data warehouse concepts and methodologies for large scale data storage
Code, design and troubleshoot/debug ETL programs
Maintain existing code to enhance functionality, improve efficiency, and replace malfunctioning or obsolete code
Share knowledge and communicate complex concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical team members and leaders
Enthusiastically seek out opportunities to continuously improve and grow both your domain and technical knowledge
Develop and follow technical documentation pertaining to the design and implementation of software
Support team members in the maintenance of systems for production environments and resolution of internal and external customer issues
Support our data transformation efforts in moving from Oracle based on-prem databases to Salesforce and Cloud-based databases
What you'll bring to the table:
Bachelor's degree (Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, Data Science or related field is preferred). Completion of advanced degrees is encouraged and supported.
5+ years of programming experience.
Experience with the following languages required: SQL (preferably pl/SQL) and Python.
3+ years of experience building and maintaining ETL solutions (preferably Pentaho).
Ability and willingness to quickly learn new technical skills as needed.
Highly self-motivated to excel at any assigned task
Ability to carefully follow and apply internal process documentation
Advanced Oracle database skills and knowledge of star schema data warehouse design.
Highly resourceful with strong problem solving abilities.
Effective customer service and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of Bash shell scripting and Git for version
Some experience working in cloud environments (e.g. Google Cloud Platform's BigQuery, Snowflake) would be helpful
Some experience working with Jenkins, Docker, Kubernetes to deploy and manage containers would be helpful
Familiar with fundamental concepts, practices, and principles of software and API development
