ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Non rotating 40 hour work week, Monday

Responsibilities

Protect public health through education and enforcement of all regulations pertinent to environmental health. Conduct inspections of food service, pool service, day care centers, foster homes, teach food handler's class, and communicate with others.

  • Conduct food service inspections by visiting food establishments, mobile units, temporary concession stands, shrimps boats, and flea market vendors to ensure City Ordinance compliance related to sanitation and controlling food borne illnesses.

  • Conduct pool inspections by checking pools for water quality, pool structure, safety requirements, enclosures, disinfection systems, chlorine residue and pH balance.

  • Educate food handlers by teaching Food Handler's Class and explain methods to control food illnesses and bacterial growth.

  • Inspect and permit day care centers by inspecting grounds, kitchen, food storage areas, garbage containers, electrical outlets, and ensure toxic products are properly stored.

  • Inspect on-site sewage facilities including measuring tank and field lines, examine and classify soils, examine and measure trenches.

  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge and skills by keeping required licenses/certifications current.

  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Requires an Associate's Degree

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience

  • A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered

  • Must become a TCEQ Designated Representative within one (1) year of hire

  • Must be able to take and pass ICS 100 and 200 Certifications within one (1) year of hire.

  • Food Handlers Card required within six (6) months of hire

  • Food Manger Permit and Swimming Pool Certification required within one (1) year of hire

  • Must become a Registered Sanitation within 2 years of hire

  • A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Basis of Rating

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.

Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
