Job Overview

The Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst is a key member of Georgetown's Office of Assessment and Decision Support (OADS) focused on structuring and utilizing administrative data from core university systems to support executives, senior leadership, administrators, and faculty in decision making.

They are a key contributor in the development and maintenance of the OADS data warehouse and the processes (ETL/ELT) that bring data into the warehouse and the suite of tools and technologies that enable reporting, visualization, and dashboards from the warehouse.

In addition, they develop reports, visualizations and dashboards in response to the needs of executive leaders and administrative units across the university and generally support the analytic and reporting needs of the office. In all work, they combine strong technical skills in data management/engineering with knowledge of the university context to ensure that OADS' data and reporting infrastructure can readily support decision making with timely and accurate data.

As part of the OADS team and with a service-oriented focus, the BI Analyst works closely with stakeholders including University Information Systems and key administrative offices to ensure the integrity and utility of the office's data and reporting infrastructure. They are a sought-after collaborator both within and outside of the office, with a reputation for effectively balancing multiple priorities, meeting or exceeding established timelines, and bringing a positive attitude, curiosity and relentless attention to detail in their work.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Data Analytics, the BI Analyst functions as an active collaborator on the OADS team. As a team member, they participate in regular and ad hoc office meetings as a positive contributor who communicate needs and timelines clearly, demonstrate a willingness to help teammates, and contribute to a supportive and safe work environment. Other interactions include:

  • Collaborating regularly and productively with University Information Services and its Business Intelligence team to develop and implement strategy for data and reporting infrastructure that aligns with University priorities

  • Establishing and maintaining positive working relationships with data stewards in key administrative areas such as Office of the University Registrar, Student Financial Services, Human Resources, Financial Affairs

  • Serving as a knowledgeable and sought-after resource for teams/departments outside of OADS that have data, reporting, visualization and dashboard needs

  • Responding professionally and in a timely manner to requests for data/reporting needs from internal stakeholders

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, analytics, management/business information systems or a related field

  • At least 5 years of experience in a large business/enterprise setting

  • Experience with development and maintenance of data warehouses and ETL/ELT processes, as well as business intelligence/reporting tools

  • Proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts

  • Proficiency in one or more business intelligence and data visualization tools - e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker, and Cognos

  • Advanced proficiency with Excel - and proficiency with office productivity apps such as Google Workspace and/or Microsoft Office 365

  • Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, and oral and written communication skills

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet established deadlines

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and work efficiently; and adept at quickly learning and effectively using new tools and techniques

  • Ability to seek help from and provide help to others when needed

  • Ability to make positive contributions to team success: to provide and receive constructive feedback, to follow established team practices/guidelines for workflows, documentation and deliverables; and to actively participate in fostering a positive, supportive work environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-based data warehouse environments (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, Snowflake, Redshift, and Azure) and ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Apache Beam, Mulesoft, and Fivetran)

  • Experience with Posit Team, R, Tidyverse, and Shiny development

  • Experience with enterprise database applications such as Banner, Workday, Slate, and Salesforce

  • Proficiency with Python and JavaScript

  • Experience with Basic Linux server administration and command line interface

The expected pay range for this position is $54,616 and $80,730 per year.

Georgetown University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity and external market pay for comparable jobs.
