Gambling Commission Career Opportunity
The Gambling Commission's Business and Financial Services (BFS) is looking for someone to join the team as a supervisor. Our ideal team member will be analytical, customer focused, and adaptable and flexible to changing business needs.
BFS provides support for agency priorities through quality financial and operational management including budgeting, contracting, grant management, fiscal monitoring, purchasing, and accounting services. Additionally, BFS is responsible for ensuring financial compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and reporting requirements.
As the BFS supervisor, you will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and support the agency's mission by coordinating the day-to-day operations of BFS, independently overseeing a range of complex fiscal tasks. Additionally, you will supervise a team of professional fiscal employees, providing guidance and support to both BFS and agency employees on all aspects of accounting and fiscal matters.

Why this position:
As the BFS supervisor, you will supervise a team of 5 and oversee a variety of fiscal work. You will also serve as the agency's contract specialist. Duties include:
Function as the technical expert of BFS
Supervise and develop BFS employees' and
Administering contracts and intergovernmental agreements.

High school diploma or GED equivalency
AND
Six years of full-time (40 hours per week or equivalent*) progressively responsible fiscal-related experience
OR
Any combination of at least four years of full-time (40 hours per week or equivalent*) progressively responsible fiscal-related experience AND 200 series or higher courses of accounting, auditing, or budgeting with a 2.0 or better grade that is equal in total to six years of experience. Three quarterly courses OR two semester courses = 1 year fiscal-related experience.
Examples:
Three quarter courses or two semester courses AND five years full-time progressively responsible fiscal-related experience.
Five quarter courses or three semester courses AND four years, six months of full-time progressively responsible fiscal-related experience.
THEN
Two years of experience researching and applying regulations, rules, procedures, and policies pertaining to job functions, including demonstrated ability to identify errors or discrepancies. If this experience is fiscal related, it can be gained at the same time as the required experience listed above.
Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to articulate complex information in easily understandable terms and make presentations to senior leadership and external parties. If this experience is fiscal-related, it can be gained at the same time as the required experience listed above.
Basic Microsoft Word skills: Insert graphic objects and visual effects to a document; add tables to a document or convert tables to text; add watermarks, borders, headers, and footers; use the word look up (thesaurus, dictionary); customize tables and charts; modify pictures in a document; create customized graphic elements; use templates.
Basic Microsoft Excel skills: Create basic worksheets; create basic formulas; use basic functions; modify and format a worksheet; print workbooks.
Basic Microsoft Outlook skills: able to compose email messages; send and respond to messages; organize email to folders; create contact information; schedules appointments and meetings.
Equivalent examples:
Working 20 hours a week for twelve months where 100% of the duties are fiscal-related = six months full-time experience
Working 40 hours a week where only 25% of job duties are fiscal related: one year of work = three months fiscal experience
We may give preference to applicants with some or all of the following experience:
Two years of experience in a lead or supervisory position.
Detailed understanding of and experience with the following:
Washington State agency payroll, benefits, leave policies and procedures, and utilizing HRMS to review, monitor, and adjust items as required.
State policies and laws (i.e. State Administrative and Accounting Manual (SAAM), Revised Code of Washington, Washington Administrative Code)
State financial systems, including data entry, report analysis, and adjusting entries.
State agency internal controls.
State agency records management.
One or more years of practical experience in contract management, including contract development, vendor agreements, contract negotiations, and contract renewals. If this experience is fiscal-related, it can be gained at the same time as the required experience listed above.
Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills; use advanced formulas; organize tables and worksheets; create and modify charts; analyze data using Pivot tables and Pivot Charts; insert and modify graphic objects in a worksheet.
Intermediate Microsoft Word Skills: Insert graphic objects and visual effects to a document; add tables to a document or convert tables to text; add watermarks, borders, headers, and footers; use the word look up (thesaurus, dictionary); customize tables and charts; modify pictures in document; create customized graphic elements; use templates.

The Washington State Gambling Commission is a licensing, regulatory, and law enforcement agency.
