Position Overview

The major objective for this position is to provide superb administrative support for the branch sales and management team, as well as increase sales in your assigned territory through growing existing customer accounts, cultivating new accounts, and creating new business opportunities. The position also provides back up for the sales team on customer needs and helps to grow sales at their assigned accounts.


A strong predictor of success for a Business Development & Support Specialists is the ability to build relationships and to demonstrate strong organizational skills. You are a focal point for great customer service for our branches as you collaborate with the inside team, field sales and management to build solid relationships with our people, customers and suppliers. Utilize all the resources, services and personnel that are at your disposal to make you and Heilind indispensable to the customer.

Performance Objectives

  • Before you start the journey, its important that you have the roadmap. Within the first 2 weeks, take the initiative to meet with your branch leadership to understand the Companys vision, key Company objectives and most important your individual objectives & expectations.

  • Within the first 30 days. Learn, with the help of your BSOM (Inside Sales Manager) the structure of Heilind and how to work within this structure. Learn the system tools so you can perform all tasks related to your job.

  • Within the first 60 days Understand what the top priorities of support are needed at the branch by working with your Manager. Proactively introduce yourself to all your accounts.

    Meet with your Field Sales Team to review your top 15 accounts and discuss engagement & opportunities. Reach a high level of comfort with our CRM and Sales tools.

  • Within 90 days Execute on the priority support functions at a high level while adding the secondary support function to your weekly routine. Proactively introduce yourself to our top 10 Supplier Reps.

    Discuss your assigned accounts, inquiring how you can work together with them to grow Heilinds business. All assigned system training modules should be complete at this time.

  • Within the first 6 months You will be balancing your branch support role with your new account development/sales role. Your regular meeting with your Inside Sales Manager will cover training needs, workload analysis, support issues, along with sharing account information, developing and executing strategies to pursue opportunities to grow Heilinds business with your Field Sales Team. Identify 5 new customers with growth potential and Profile existing accounts, identifying $100,000 of new opportunities that Heilind doesnt currently enjoy.


A Business Development & Support Specialist for Heilind needs to have at least two years of sales/marketing experience or sales support; preferably in electronic component distribution or a closely related field. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint are also frequently utilized sales tools.

Leverages operational knowledge of various facilities, their specific engineering processes, and working knowledge of operational systems. Essential Functions * Acts as a change agent throughout the District in order to influence and steer management decisions to ensure alignment and optimization of engineering and operational plans * Identifies facility inefficiencies through root cause analysis by conducting facility visit observations and leveraging operational knowledge for solutions to deliver on-site assistance for improvements * Advises and facilitates team knowledge and optimal application of dock operational systems (such as Vision, Sortation Systems - ISS & ISSC) and identifies and solves for corrective actions * Creates Network Alignment Plans * Determines Capacity Planning to ensure full use of facilities * Prepares Volume Projections for short term/future/long range * Oversees District Changes (spin offs, expansions, relocations) * Forecasts labor and project manning needs for current/future * Evaluates Hub/Linehaul cut times to determine if they are meeting requirements * Develops Labor Standards to minimize labor hours as needed * Produces monthly operational plans to determine required resources needed with special focus on Peak planning * Responsible for goal/budget setting (productivity, service and cost) to turn cost inefficiencies into cost savings * Provides material handling project recommendations, including financial analysis, to justify facility expansions * Constructs contingency plans for potential abnormal events * Acts as a subject-matter expert on all operational/system/technology processes and upgrades * Identifies possible gaps in adherence to SQI metrics as it pertains to scanning, pickup, delivery, loss, and damage * Trains management on operational processes and procedures Minimum Education * Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Logistics, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math required. OR * An equivalency of four (4) additional years' experience in the areas below + minimum required experience with a high school diploma/GED or unrelated Bachelor's degree.
