BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT / SALES MANAGER, CHEMICAL DEVELOPMENT, SAN FRANCISCO BAY AREA

AMRI provides global contract research and manufacturing services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

The Business Development / Sales Manager, Analytical Testing Services is an integral part of the AMRI team, contributing to our success by designing and implementing strategies and related operational actions for the profitable development of AMRI's Contract Services Business. The focus of this role will be Chemical Development and Manufacturing Business Development Sales.

In this role, you will:

  • Be accountable for the Territory's established Sales quota and key account relationships.

  • Develop new accounts and establish profitable growth in target markets.

  • Work closely with the Vice President of Discovery, Development and Analytical Services to execute the commercial strategy, goals, actions and budgets for the Territory.

  • Assist the Vice President in identifying market potential by identifying client requirements, defining market, competitors' share, and competitors' advantages and weaknesses, forecasting projected business, establishing targeted Company share.

  • Monitor competition by gathering current marketplace information on pricing, products, new products, delivery scheduled, merchandising techniques, etc.

  • Ensure existing accounts are serviced effectively, obtain orders, and establish new accounts by planning and organizing daily work schedule to call on potential clients.

  • Call on prospective accounts, provide technical and administrative product information, coordinate presentations, and support proposal generation. Prepare client-specific presentations and other data to respond to client needs.

  • Generate new business leads. Utilize strong interpersonal skills when negotiating contracts and/or bids and building long-term relationships with potential external partners and/or customers.

  • Plan, develop, implement and evaluate advertising, and trade show promotion programs for the Territory.

  • Work with internal teams to translate client needs and expectations into increased business.

  • Perform other duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.

Qualifications

Qualifications and background to be successful in this role:

Required

  • BS/MS in Life Sciences or another related scientific discipline preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years business-to-business sales experience in development, discovery and/or related industry.

  • Strong commercial and negotiating skills, necessary to promote complex services to sophisticated clients in pharmaceutical and biotechnology R&D areas.

  • Good interpersonal, communications and presentation skills, capable of identifying appropriate clients and partners, establishing and maintaining the necessary effective business relationships.

  • Positive and enthusiastic personality and the energy, drive and stamina to bring projects to a successful conclusion.

  • Able and willing to operate remotely, while remaining a key member of the AMRI team.

  • Strong knowledge of West Coast & Midwest pharmaceutical market.

Preferred

  • Significant experience in the pharmaceutical industry, combining sales/marketing and scientific experience with a track record in the successful closure of deals and a demonstrable network of contacts within the customer community worldwide.

  • Broad and deep understanding of the pharmaceutical and biotech markets and decision-making dynamics within the companies operating in this space.

Travel Requirements

50% travel required (overnight travel is required).

The Senior Research Scientist, Chemical Development, is an expert synthetic organic chemist. The scientist's principal responsibility is in the design, synthesis, purification and identification of chemical intermediates and target compounds. The scientist is expected to provide contributions to the chemical problems assigned. The scientist is self-motivated and demonstrates initiative in responsibilities and always strives to do the job better. RESPONSIBILITIES * Synthesize target compounds utilizing a blend of both classical and modern technology effectively. * Modify reaction conditions in accord with visual observations to allow rapid, successful production of target compounds. * Use a broad spectrum of practical laboratory skills as needed; including advanced methods of purification of solvents and reagents, running reactions under anhydrous and oxygen free conditions, and using advanced methods for isolation/purification of sensitive materials. * Utilize all available techniques and analytical instrumentation such as: NMR, IR, & HPLC for monitoring laboratory experiments and the analysis of products effectively. * Conduct laboratory operations in a safe manner. Maintain familiarity with the Chemical Hygiene Plan. Exhibit safety awareness and safe work practices. * Follow responsible actions regarding chemical disposal. Maintain compliance with all regulations at the federal, state, and local levels. * Recommend and implement methods to increase the quality of products and/or service. * Adapt to changing priorities such that productivity is unaffected. * Contribute suggestions to coworkers. * Organize work time so that several reactions are run concurrently.
