Summary

Thrivent Advisory Network (TAN), is a hybrid RIA channel that seeks to be the platform of choice for advisors who prefer independence and want to build a business as a part of a community of professionals dedicated to helping Christians achieve financial clarity. At this time, TAN is looking to add a Business Development Officer (BDO) to the team. The BDO is responsible for growing the footprint of the Thrivent Advisor Network. Their primary responsibilities include the continued development and implementation of the TAN recruiting strategy through prospecting, relationship management, sales process optimization and brand building. Other responsibilities include tracking and responding to industry developments and competitive intelligence, involvement in reporting, performance setting and management, training, ongoing platform design and administration.

This role is responsible for a significant portion of the productivity within the Thrivent Advisor Network. Reporting to the Head of Business Development, the BDO fosters close working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the sales organization's efficient operation and success. This is an individual contributor role focused partially on phone and email relationships, with a significant amount of travel and face-to-face relationships and negotiations. Requires the ability to quickly meet the needs of a client by traveling to them for initial meetings and again to escalate through the stages of the pipeline.

This role can be located anywhere in the United States.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Prospect for potential new financial advisor clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging their network while championing the Thrivent value proposition and representing TAN as a premier independent national ADV platform.

  • Engage clients to properly identify critical business drivers/problems and develop appropriate joint solutions. Serve as their single point of contact and ultimately convert prospects into clients.

  • Coordinate the pre-acquisition due diligence process and collaborate to prepare for transition planning, including portability assessment and start-up needs.

  • Incorporate and respond to economic analysis of clients.

  • Overcome objections and provide additional information to clients, which requires in-depth knowledge of financial services industry and markets.

  • Develop market resources to generate a high-volume pipeline of qualified clients/practices (warm market, networking, referral firms, cold market, etc.)

  • Present business development training and mentoring to business developers and other internal staff.

  • Supports sales forecasting, planning, and budgeting processes. Maintains high levels of quality, accuracy, and process consistency in planning, forecasting, and budgeting approaches used by the sales organization.

  • Facilitates successful implementation of new programs through the sales organization by ensuring a well-defined, efficient sales process is in place for launch. Supports an organization of continuous process improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Four-year college degree from an accredited institution or equivalent work experience; MBA and/or advanced designations preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of financial advisor recruiting experience, specifically onto a 1099 independent business owner platform. Minimum 7 years in a sales operation, business planning, or sales support management role.

  • Proven ability to develop and manage relationships in addition to sales and negotiating in a constructive and collaborative manner.

  • Savvy with financial planning, managed accounts, brokerage, insurance and annuities. Knowledge of financial services industry trends, developments, and regulatory considerations.

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and the ability to work within a fast-moving environment.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage both field and corporate office relationships.

  • Analytical proficiency in market sizing and segmentation, forecasting and business planning.

  • Willingness to travel and work irregular hours.

  • Ability to leverage storytelling to persuade and motivate.

  • Active participation in industry associations and trade groups.

  • Understanding of and relationships in Thrivent Advisor Network target market.
