Essential Functions

Key individual contributor and coordination role responsible for directing and generating business opportunities for a major program, product line, or market segment within a division. At the higher levels, has overall responsibility at a large division or across multiple facilities with high earnings and revenue accountability and product complexity. Works directly with business team and current and potential customers to promote company technologies, products and services to meet customer needs and to determine how the company's capabilities can be leveraged into additional markets.

Responsibilities may include most or all of the following:

Has responsibility to translate customer requirements into proposals and contracts that are priced to win and provide an acceptable level of return to the company.

Develops strategies and solutions for contracts that are opened for renegotiation during the contract period.

Develops and manages proposals and business development plans for domestic and international programs.

Determines the need for cross-division teaming and external strategic partners/alliances to gain business.

Conducts competitive research, evaluates sales performance, and formulates goals and milestones for specific products and systems.

Has a thorough understanding of the divisions capabilities and capacity, and uses market information to influence future plans.

Maintains liaison with customers and Regional/Group Marketing to assure customer satisfaction with regard to cost, product quality, delivery, and performance.

Stays in close contact with division technology and operations teams to enable rapid turnaround solutions.

Provides the customer with liaison support within and across divisions on existing and new programs.

Develops and maintains relationships with customers to gain knowledge of future market and customer needs.


Bachelors Degree (technical/engineering discipline may be required). An advanced degree in business may be preferred. Seven or more years of engineering/program experience with an additional 1-2 years in business development. This is typically a level of advancement and increased responsibility in business development following senior marketing and/or engineering experience that has included contract preparation, negotiation, and direct customer interface.

Knowledge of:

Company products, technologies, programs, and service capabilities.

Program management and business processes and procedures, including technical and business proposal development.

Domestic and international customer budgeting and acquisition processes and procedures.

Government and industrial procurement regulations and practices.

Competitors products and marketing efforts and national, industrial business, and political interests.

Other companies products and capabilities for potential teaming and alliances.

U.S. and international rules and regulations.

Ability to:

Sell ideas inside and outside the company.

Expertly brief customer and company management and communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.

Translate customer desires and projected requirements into business development strategies.

Develop solutions to customer problems.

Develops and executes strategy for government market with manager's input; develops strong relationships with key customer contacts and leverages to Zebra's advantage; creates and delivers high impact sales presentations and capable of product training; often used for those with strong technical background but limited sales experience. As required, leverages relationships with other business units and/or external partners to deliver solution; Develops strong relationships with key decision makers and influencers. This remote opportunity can be based anywhere in North America near a major airport. Responsibilities * Develops and executes strategy for government market * Development of both FED/SLED , with particular focus on the Public Safety market * Input on creation of product roadmap for public sector, with emphasis on relevant sub-verticals * Development, in conjunction with GOV Sales Leader, the sales routes to market, marketing, demand generation and channel development * Government liaison between product teams and sales organization. * Maintain complete product roadmap for Government Agency customers and prospective government customers as a contractual vendor requirement with government entities. * Single point of contact for customers, account managers and custom products group for all unique government requests for customization of Zebra products to meet agency requirements * Identifies and maintains current TAA/FIPS compliant product list to share with customers * Acts as the voice of the customer on specific product needs with all Product teams (e.g. OS plans, TAA/FIPS on specific form factors, FirstNet, etc.) * Works with marketing as appropriate as SME on Government applications and use case development * Single point of contact on all product technical compliance requests associated with government bids, RFIs and RFPs * Responds to and manages all government requests for technical specifications on Zebra products that are required on most bids and opportunities. Provides technical responses by coordinating information supplied from Zebra product teams. * Responsible for communicating certification requirements and customer requests with the product team, working with customer and product management to ensure Zebra compliance on all opportunities. * Technical resource to Contracts team that responds/completes all RFPs. Government Business Development manager provides technical content for all RFPs and RFIs to ensure Zebra products are properly evaluated and considered in applicable government bids.
