The Business Development Manager is responsible for negotiating 3rd party partnership deals and identifying new revenue streams for the IBM Watson Media and Weather team. The focus of the role is negotiating global weather data and content licensing partnerships, and on identification of strategic partners who can partner with IBM across other areas of the business.
A successful candidate has experience in negotiating deals in the technology space, and is comfortable working across a variety of varying business models and industries. Functional expertise and industry expertise are both helpful skills in this role, as is a healthy dose of creativity. Must be a self-starter, and be comfortable with a fast-paced environment.
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
Investigation of legacy/existing partnerships to determine additional growth opportunities
Identification of new potential partners within defined channels
Partner evaluations sometimes within formal selection processes
Negotiation of deals, including term sheet sand any contractual agreements
Driving internal communications/input with internal IBM stakeholders
After the deal, ensuring a smooth handoff to operational teams and ensuring clear partner management goals are in place

Collaboration with several functional organizations is required internally at IBM to negotiate deals externally including regular interactions with Finance, Offering Management/Product, Marketing, Sales, Legal, Watson Advertising, and Technology/Engineering. The role requires excellent communication skills, and experience in working in a matrixed organization structure where it is often critical to communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the IBM organization.
The role is expected to have up to 25% travel.
