Aon is looking for a Business Development Leader, Public Sector Practice

As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results for our clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions as part of our Public Sector Practice based in Washington, D.C. or Chicago.

Your impact as a Business Development Leader

You will be based in Aon's Washington, D.C. or Chicago office and report directly to the CCO of Aon's Public Sector Partnership, which is a part of our New Ventures Group. You will work with a diverse team, including backgrounds from the public sector, reinsurance, federal agencies, legal and compliance, and procurement. Your work will primarily consist of identifying, developing, and growing relationships with public sector clients to offer them risk transfer solutions and grow Aon's Public Sector Partnership.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans and executes business development strategies to develop clients in public sector

  • Holds direct responsibility for pipeline management and the veracity, validity, and volume of opportunities being tracked

  • Develops, maintains, and broadens relationships with public sector clients through educating, negotiating, selling, and after-deal relationship management for complex services to clients in the public sector"

  • Identifies and develops opportunities for new, creative risk solutions for public sector clients (local, state, federal/national, and global agencies) across diverse geographies

  • Helps build the foundation for Aon's new Public Sector Partnership by working with solution leaders and local experts in defining growth strategy opportunities and broadening the firm's footprint across government entities

  • Convenes diverse stakeholders across Aon to problem solve around strategic direction for business development efforts, enable the success of new risk solutions, and coordinate engagement with high-priority clients

  • Proven track record at cross-selling into and expanding existing accounts to grow relationship and increase value delivered to clients

  • Mentors and supports sales team members based on extensive experience in professional service sales environment; builds team as Public Sector Partnership grows

  • Works with research analysts to assess a broad array of markets and opportunities

You Bring Knowledge and Expertise

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent work experience required

  • Minimum of 10 years experience (15+ preferred) in a sales role at professional services organization focused on government clients

  • Strong public sector network and record of successfully driving growth in organizations focused on serving the public sector

  • Strong expertise in public sector budget and procurement processes

  • Familiarity with financial services preferred, not required

  • Extensive experience leading project teams, performing service delivery, and interacting with senior level contacts at broad, complex, and diverse organization

  • Strong focus on business development with entrepreneurial mindset and bias to grow client footprint, with eagerness to target whitespace

  • Strong business acumen and executive sales presence, including the ability to influence decision-makers at all levels

  • Strong team-based collaboration skills

  • Ability and willingness to travel ~20%

The PSSP provides management consulting services to governments at the federal, state and local levels as well as social sector entities. On a daily basis, you will work with members of the PSSP, the legal department, and other administrative functions. What You'll Do You will work on a range of public sector proposal and contract-related activities, specifically the pre-proposal phase, proposal delivery and contract execution. In this role you will work with contracting officers of existing and target clients to prepare for meetings, as well as negotiate non-disclosure agreements and teaming agreements with third parties. You will review requests for proposal (RFPs), requests for quote (RFQs), and all other government tenders, including amendments, distribute government tender documents and communicate contractual requirements to the appropriate colleagues. You will support contract and modification negotiations with clients. Additionally, you'll communicate with the government regarding submissions (e.g., confirmation of receipt, bid/no-bid decisions), complete forms and other compliance-related documents and support colleagues in preparing price volumes and proposals for the government. You will also help maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date proposal and contract files on a real-time basis.
