Position Summary

The Business Development Director position is a key sales role within the TCS Life Sciences Unit sales team for North America, responsible for executing regional sales and business development strategies for target companies within the Life Sciences Unit.

The candidate will play a hunter role, responsible for acquiring new clients for TCS. The candidate will target sales of TCS's entire portfolio of IT Outsourcing services including Consulting, BPO, ADM, IS and Engineering Services for targeted firms. The position's primary responsibility is to achieve new sales results for TCS' services in the sales regions identified above. The candidate will develop revenue-producing relationships with decision-making CxO level executives at targeted firms, as well as drive the sales cycle of all assigned sales opportunities from initial prospect communication through contract execution. The role is supported by on-site and offshore Pre-Sales & Solutioning teams.


  • Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual sales targets established by the Life Sciences Sales Head and execute business development, offering positioning and sales strategies as a member of the sales team for North America.

  • Achieve lead generation, prospecting and other sales management goals designed to build an optimal sales pipeline.

  • Personally develop strong, long-term relationships and referrals with senior management at targeted firms

  • Manage the end-to-end sales process for all opportunities including initial client communication, on-site presentations, RFI response, multi-day client workshops, RFP submission, negotiation and deal signing. The candidate is the focal point for all communication and sales activities with prospects and customers.

  • Work in close collaboration with TCS' presales team & delivery teams to ensure that proposed offerings and services fully meet customers' business and technology needs.

  • Provide support to customers during initial phases of an engagement. Follow up and ensure total client satisfaction through the life cycle of the relationship.

  • Support the team's market research and competitive positioning analysis in partnership with regional presales, marketing and product development staff.

  • Adhere to all TCS Sales, Human Resource, and corporate ethical policies, standards and guidelines.

  • Demonstrate strong personal communication and presentation skills to establish interest, credibility and trust.

Skill and Experience Requirements

  • Strong hunter profile with a proven track record of success in selling technology outsourcing services into the Life Sciences Industry

  • Demonstration of a consistent over-achievement of client acquisition and sales revenue targets.

  • At least 8 years of experience in selling IT services within the region, preferably working in a leading IT services & products firm with prior experience of working with offshore teams.

< div="" /> Strong local contact base and access to alumni, local associations, industry associations within the region.

  • Good understanding of the Life Sciences industry.

  • Experience with vendor selection processes including RFI and RFP issuance and response management;

  • Experience of working on opportunities run by Third Party Advisory Firms such as TPI, Equaterra , etc

  • Understanding of customer decision making criteria as it pertains to offshore services, consulting, enterprise solutions

  • Ability to maintain strong sales management focus during sales cycles that are typically six months to one year in duration.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage often complex negotiations with senior-level business and technology executives at leading Life Sciences Companies.

  • Thorough command of English, both written and spoken.

Travel Requirements

  • The candidate is expected to travel regularly to regional prospect and customer locations to support lead generation, sales presentations, contract negotiations, engagement implementation, and ongoing relationship building.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.

This role will be uncovering, meeting needs and solving problems for new clients - by promoting either Studio and Staffing services or a strategic combination of both. This role requires an ability to successfully interact with all levels of professionals within an organization especially the "C" level executives (CEO, CMO, CFO, etc.). Required Skills: * Bachelor of Science in Marketing, Business Administration or related field required. * 5+ years of experience in professional sales/business development role, with 7-10 years of business experience overall. * Ability and experience in selling to "C" level executives - primarily the CMO/EVP/SVP of Marketing, plus the 'second-in-command' marketing staff (Director or Sr. Manager). * Background and/or understanding of marketing and creative processes (industry experience could include advertising, creative services, interactive, print, marketing staffing/studio services, managing a marketing team within an organization). * Proven track record of developing cold and warm leads via a consistent and disciplined contact/outreach system and process using core contact hours, resulting in a high volume of two-way conversations. * Ability to focus and prioritize actions strategically to achieve desired outcomes. Position Responsibilities: * Building the Pipeline (50% of time): Follows and enhances an established prospecting and sales pipeline management process to source, identify and do basic qualification for warm and cold leads. This requires a high volume of outreach (typically via phone) to known and unknown individuals to uncover names, contact details, decision maker status, needs, interest level, current competitive usage and other key data points (as defined in the Sales Pipeline Qualifier document). This should lead to a face to face conversation and/or result in the removal of this leads or a move them into prospect or HOP (high-opportunity prospect) status within the sales pipeline qualifying process. * Acquiring New Clients (35-40% of time): Follows and enhances the established sales pipeline management process to further qualify and convert defined prospects and high-opportunity prospects (HOPs) into clients. This includes qualifying large companies within our target market that may not be converted in the current operating year, but that could be converted within the following year(s). This requires a customized contact with qualified decision makers to reaffirm their need and ability to buy our client's services, and to secure their intent or willingness to buy. This involves direct engagement to further define opportunities and close deals, leading to intake meetings for both our staffing and studio business lines. This role is responsible for acquiring new clients at a volume of $1 million of unique, new revenue annually. * Leadership Team (5% of time): Is a respected and contributing member of our client's leadership team with effective use and involvement in E.O.S. (Entrepreneurial Operating System) process used by our client for effective and efficient business operations.
