JOB DUTIES:

As a Business Compliance Specialist you will: manage a compliance review case load in the areas of Wage and Hour, Prevailing Wage, Workers' Compensation, Contractor Registration, Independent Contractor, and other programs supported by ESD. Duties include reviewing employer business practices and conducting audit reviews of records and business operations. Much of the work involves interpreting and determining the rights of parties arising under often disputed contractual issues involving oral and written employment agreements, contracts, and personnel policies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:

If you are the right person for this opportunity, you will have the following knowledge, skills or abilities:

  • Knowledge of legal and investigative processes and fundamentals as a basis to make clear and concise decisions regarding the validity, scope, and priority level of all cases.

  • Knowledge of statutes, rules, legal opinions, and case law regarding compliance programs including Independent Contractor, Contractor Registration, Wage and Hour, Prevailing Wage, and Workers' Compensation.

  • Basic knowledge of mediation and conciliation principles to settle disputes between parties.

  • Ability to organize and maintain continuous control of numerous cases with changing deadlines and priorities.

  • Ability to explain complex issues both orally and in writing to a high degree, while exercising discretion and independent judgment to gather information, analyze conflicting facts, and determine issues of credibility to draw correct conclusions.

  • Skill in recognizing when something is wrong or likely to go wrong and recognize the actions needed to accomplish an objective and to initiate action with minimum supervision.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Your preparation for this opportunity could include a combination of relevant experiences including:

  • Relevant bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, human services, or a related field; and,
  • One year of compliance/regulation with specific emphasis in analytical and communication skills

OR

  • 5 years of directly relevant experience.

OR

  • Any combination of equivalent experience and education to successfully perform the essential functions of the position will be considered.
