ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Rotating forty (40) hour work week, 24 hour shifts, seven (7) days a week. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities

The Utility Technicians are responsible for the maintenance and operation of the O.N. Stevens Water Treatment Plant, Choke Canyon Reservoir, Wesley Seale Dam, and six (6) Wastewater Treatment Plants.

These positions are also responsible for maintenance and operation of the water distribution, wastewater collection lines, and pump stations. Employees must remain in compliance with TCEQ and other applicable laws and regulations while working within the scope of their position.

Utility Technician II

Grade: 107

Salary: $882 - $1,446 Biweekly (Dependent on Qualifications)

Basic understanding and operating of powered equipment; Investigate and inspect water distribution and wastewater collections systems; Install, maintain, excavate, repair, replace, backfill, and locate water and wastewater infrastructure; Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; Perform basic computer input skills; Perform additional duties as assigned.

Utility Technician III

Grade: 110

Salary: $1,021 - $1,674 Biweekly (Dependent on Qualifications)

Operate heavy equipment including backhoes and vactors; Install meters at residential service connections; Perform water service turn-on/offs for residential, commercial, and industrial customers; Collects water samples for laboratory testing; Investigate system problems and makes recommendations for corrections; Provide customer service. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Utility Technician IV

Grade: 113

Salary: $1,182 - $1,938 Biweekly (Dependent on Qualifications)

Train employees on work crews; Participate in system planning and analyses; Investigates customer complaints/incidents to determine cause and course of action; Coordinate work orders; Perform maintenance, installation, and repair on pressure/water regulating devices including small/large valves, water service lines, and water transmission mains; Relocate meters and service runs; Use electronic and computerized equipment to locate leaks; Perform additional duties as assigned.

Utility Technician V

Grade: 116

Salary: $1,369 - $2,243 Biweekly (Dependent on Qualifications)

Perform lead and administrative duties; Coordinate work schedule with engineers, construction inspectors, and other city staff and external customers; Train staff on proper response to citizen inquiries, concerns, and complaints; Provide guidance, training, and assistance in the evaluation of crew members; Support and lead staff on job sites; Perform, maintain, and train staff on a variety of asset control and inventory; Review, interpret, and train staff on maps, plans, drawings, meters, gauges, videos, and specifications of work assignments; Operate and maintain vehicles and heavy equipment; Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Utility Technician II

High School Diploma or GED and less than one year of experience. A valid driver's license is required.

Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL driver's license within 6 months of hire. Must be able to obtain a Class I Wastewater Collection license within 6 months of hire

Utility Technician III

High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of related experience. A valid driver's license is required.

Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL driver's license within 6 months of hire. A Class II Wastewater Collection license within 6 months of hire is preferred.

Utility Technician IV

High School Diploma or GED and three (3) years of related experience. A valid driver's license is required.

Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL driver's license within 6 months of hire. Applicants with a Class A CDL driver's license preferred. A Class III Wastewater Collection license within 6 months of hire is preferred.

Utility Technician V

High School Diploma or GED and five (5) years of related experience. A valid driver's license is required.

Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire. Must be able to obtain a Class A CDL driver's license within 6 months of hire. Applicants with a Class A CDL driver's license preferred. A Class III Wastewater Collection license within 6 months of hire is preferred.

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

Closing Statement

Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.

Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.

In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
