Job Description

The Business Analyst (BA), Intermediate develops and maintains an understanding of university and divisional initiatives and their strategic alignment, goals, and objectives. This individual collaborates with business partners, other team members, and leadership across the institution and within the division to determine the value and viability of proposed university initiatives and on the development and management of project briefs, business cases, and cost benefit analysis documents, as well as the design, development, and improvement of cross-divisional processes and applications. The person in this position identifies and evaluates cross-department, cross-divisional, and project impact, as well as potential business risk and risk impact. The BA, Int. identifies metrics and collaborates with senior team members and business areas to determine ROI on initiatives.

The BA, Int. develops and maintains productive partnerships with leaders and colleagues across the institution, business units, distributed business analysts, solution architects, and other technical teams within ITS. This individual assists Academic Affairs Business Analysis team in the development of strong, consistent processes, cohesive and standardized best practices. The BA, Int. collaborates as a member of an institutional center of excellence with other business analysts at the institution. This individual also has a commitment to continuous professional development and embraces opportunities for learning and growth.

Business Systems and Application Process Analysis

  • Support technical goals through analysis, implementation, evaluation, and review of complex technology and business processes.

  • Participate in software development cycle with stakeholders and developers across divisions.

  • Elicit requirements and business needs, diagnose problems, recommend potential solutions, identify opportunities to improve daily work, processes, operations.

  • Work to understand needs of departments via workshops, shadowing, interviews, business process or data/systems mapping, surveys, workflow analyses, etc.

  • Create specifications for technical solutions and functional end user documentation as well.

  • Design test plans and use cases. Utilize past and current processes and data for improved decision making, identification of best practices, etc.

  • Participates in analysis and design for cross-divisional and cross-departmental processes.

  • Works to help reduce technical debt.

  • Collaborate with other teams and staff, building and maintaining positive working relationships across the university.

Project Management

  • Serve as Project Manager to coordinate and facilitate moderately complex projects as assigned.

  • Ensure data integrity of task and project tracking.

  • Report project progress per defined schedule.

  • Ensure visibility into project and task status for stakeholders and others.

  • Utilize data to promote effective and efficient operations and escalate bottlenecks to leadership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant field.

  • 2-4 years of relevant experience.

  • Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Business systems support experience in higher education.

  • Master's degree in relevant field.

  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Salesforce, and/or ServiceNOW.

  • CBAP or other similar credential.

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Salary

Anticipated salary range is $62,996 - $69,552. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and therefore will not earn overtime or compensatory time for additional time worked.

Benefits

This is a Classified Staff (CLS) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System; paid vacation and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified dependents. More information on benefits at NAU is available on the Human Resources benefits website. Classified Staff employees are in a probationary status for their first six months at NAU. NAU is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). New employees are eligible for benefits on the first day of the pay period following their enrollment, after their employment date. Employees will have 31 days from their start date to enroll in benefits. Additionally, new employees will begin participating in the Arizona State Retirement System, and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it, on the first of the pay period following 6 months after the new employee's start date.
