The Finance Group is responsible for managing the Banks accounting, budgeting, and risk management modeling functions (including capital, liquidity, interest-rate risk, and allowance for loan losses). The Finance Group also provides analytic and decision support to other groups in the Bank.

As a Business Analyst in the Finance Group, you will be responsible for ensuring that Hingham makes sound financial and business decisions. Your work, whether modeling business scenarios, tracking performance metrics, or analyzing business problems, is used by our team to make strategic corporate decisions. You will work directly with the CFO as well as the Banks Treasurer, who will provide regular direction and coaching.

This is an exciting role that provides full finance support to business partners as well as offering scope for leadership of individual analytical projects. You will work in close partnership with talented colleagues and consult on planning, reporting and decision support.

From developing forward-thinking analysis to generating management reports to implementing and scaling automated financial and regulatory reporting processes, our Finance Group is an important partner and advisor to the business lines within the Bank.

Our expectation is that a strong performer in this role would, after several years, receive the Banks support to take on greater responsibility in a business line unit or return to graduate school.

  • Gather, analyze and present key financial or operational information for the Bank, working with all groups and the management team.
  • Prepares ad-hoc analysis by collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and trends, identifying relevant insights that enable other employees in the Bank to make sound decisions.
  • Use Hinghams data to architect metrics, solve problems, and influence executive decision-making.
  • Develop new tools in order to drive scalable analysis and insight.
  • Ensure that the team manages our financial position wisely by supporting annual budget preparation and performance monitoring.
  • Provide analytical leadership in how we gather, structure and present key operational data.
  • Perform accounting functions related to internal and external financial reporting, such as journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Acts as liaison for external and internal auditors.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or masters degree or have 1 3 years of work experience after completing your undergraduate degree - preferably in a quantitative discipline
  • Outstanding record of academic achievement.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for analytics and quantitative problem solving.
  • Proven record of leadership in a work setting and/or through extracurricular activities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively verbally, in writing, and visually.
  • Strong ability to turn data into actionable insights.
  • Advanced analytical skills and an ability to work independently in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment; work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations.
  • Solid organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and manage multiple projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of bank accounting and financial reporting principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage financial models for business forecasting, variance analysis, and problem solving.
  • Comfort and experience using SQL to extract and manipulate data from disparate data sources, including experience working with incomplete or unstructured data.
  • Experience designing instrumentation to gather new data relevant to business problems, including working with business line partners on implementation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel, SQL, BigQuery, DataStudio, or other analytical/visualization tools.

Required Qualifications * Bachelors degree or equivalent. * 3 - 5 years Relevant Experience Required. * Series 7 or ability to obtain within 150 days. * State securities agent registration (S63 or S66) or ability to obtain within 150 days. * State IAR registration (S65 or S66) or ability to obtain within 150 days. * Life, Accident, and Health licenses or ability to obtain within 150 days. * Experience working in a client service environment. * Detail orientated, strong math, and analytical skills. Good organization and time management skills. * Able to manage multiple priorities and prioritizes effectively.
