Job Summary
The Business Advisor is essential to the success of the participants in the 10,000 Small Businesses program. Works with designated participants, supports the classroom environment, and links participants to business support services and capital. The Business Advisor engages in course preparation, advising and curriculum support, community building, and assessment. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.
This is a temporary grant funded position through June 30 year 2024 contingent upon grantor funding and grant extensions.
This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 consecutive months of continuous employment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Networks with business support services to enhance the local entrepreneurship and to advance program recruitment
Meets with participants on an individual basis to guide business growth dedicated to quality control of the growth plan and an advisor transition plan
Assists in participant recruiting, reviews participant applications as part of admission process, and reviews accepted participant data to understand participant's individualized needs as well as the needs of the cohort
Creates participant profiles for program use
Plans advising schedule and approach
Participates in training seminars with a particular focus on advising for business growth, peer learning
Assists within the classroom to coordinate group activities and support faculty
Attends all modules, clinics and program events to support participant learning
Understands the content and delivery approach of the curriculum and helps participants apply course content to their businesses
Connects with the local partners
Assists participants in learning how to use advisors appropriately
Works with participants to connect them to external business support services
Works with participants to understand, collect and apply business metrics to support growth
Leads bi-weekly planning sessions to support participant business growth
Participates in assessment of participants, curriculum sessions, and program through debriefing and review process
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in business, entrepreneurship, sales or related field with seven (7) years of successful experience in business advising for a small business clientele; or Master's degree in business, entrepreneurship, sales or related field with three (3) years of successful experience in business advising for a small business clientele
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Ability to make assessments, provide growth plans, and advise scholars
Ability to develop and oversee quality assurance measures to ensure program effectiveness
Proven ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively
Possess strong spoken and written communication skills
Possess high personal and professional ethical standards
Possess a strong commitment to working with designated participants in a facilitative and supportive manner and dedication to the program outcomes of job creation and revenue generation
Ability to demonstrate appropriate practitioner oriented expertise in the classroom, along with an appreciation for theoretical frameworks
Understands and values the importance of metrics through measurement and evaluation activities
Ability to use a model of community engagement to link participants to other business support services
Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evening and weekend assignments
Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff and guests of the College
Additional Requirements
The final candidate is to successfully complete a background screening and reference check process.
