Wealth and Investment Management (WIM) Operational Risk Control Team

The WIM Operational Risk Control team provides business executives with an aggregate view of risk for their respective business, as well as assurance of the effectiveness and sustainability of the internal risk and control framework, including risk assessment, reporting, monitoring and escalation of control related issues.

The Role

WIM Operational Risk Control team is seeking a prominent leadership role to manage Operational Risk Events (ORE) & Operational Loss program which is a critical component of Enterprise Operational Risk Ecosystem. This highly visible and critical component of WIM's front line control executive organization will partner and collaborate with Independent Risk Management (IRM), Risk Type Owners, and Risk Program Owners & LOB Risk teams to support the implementation of Operational Risk Event program and work towards maturity of the program. This role will also interact with Wells Fargo Audit Services and external regulatory examiners as needed.

A successful candidate must be a collaborative individual contributor capable of initiating action, leading from the front and managing multiple concurrent deliverables without sacrificing quality or deadlines in an aggressive and past paced environment. The successful candidate will be accountable for building out a road-map for the maturity of the program. He/She will be expected to build strong and collaborative relationships with partners within WIM Operational Risk Control team and the enterprise, develop and demonstrate an understanding of risk management framework while, provide challenge, and deliver sound advice and counsel on applicable internal policy and program requirements

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Policy/Program implementation across WIM Lines of Business, execution & oversight

  • Lead program maturity and risk transformation initiatives.

  • Lead Front Line implementation of enhancements to ORE platform by identifying gaps, providing business requirements and participating in User Acceptance Testing.

  • Responsible for operational risk event review and approvals involving detailed research and follow through for WIM top of the house operational risk events & operational losses

  • Review and coordinate response to credible challenges, data integrity alerts, and related communications from Independent Risk Management (IRM) partners

  • Facilitate monthly Community of Practice for WIM user group to keep them informed of platform/policy changes and guidance

  • Maintain credible relationships with key stakeholders across the first ,second & third lines of defense

  • Serve as subject matter expert to advise new platform developments and implementation plans, define requirements, and perform design reviews

  • Report and track platform defects and communicate remediation, workarounds and status

  • Provide consulting and guidance to business user community and WIM Control Teams on ORE functionality, data structure, standards and guidelines for platform usage

  • Partner and collaborate with WIM Control Teams to understand needs, ideas, and issues, and advocate with enterprise leadership for solutions

  • Maintain Quality Assurance procedures and execute data quality reviews to ensure data integrity & quality.

  • Management Reporting of Operational Loss Data

  • Provide operational loss data metric for risk measurement

  • Drive integration and alignment with other risk assessment programs (e.g. IPRC - Integrated Process Risk & Controls , ERIA Enterprise Risk Identification & Assessment)

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of experience in risk management (includes compliance, financial crimes, operational risk, audit, legal, credit risk, market risk, IT systems security, business process management) or 7+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 5+ years must include direct experience in risk management

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Experience working in or closely with Wealth and Investment Management lines of business (or external equivalents) sufficient to demonstrate a working knowledge of their products/services, key processes/systems, and organizational structure

  • Risk Program/Policy Implementation & Oversight

  • Finance, CPA and/or Legal background

  • Experience with Operational Risk Foundations components (Risk and Control Self- Assessment, Operational Loss Data , External Loss Data)

  • Experience and understanding of WF Operational Risk Management Platform (SHRP) modules (SHRP Issue Management, RCSA, SHRP Reporting), ORE Platform and/or their equivalents

  • Experience developing, implementing and monitoring a risk-based program to assure compliance with governing requirements or providing oversight to a risk program function

  • Ability to influence across all organizational levels, particularly senior management

  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization

  • Ability to influence stakeholders in a collaborative environment without direct organizational authority

  • Experience building partnerships and consulting effectively with leadership

  • Strong project management and execution skills, including the ability to manage multiple engagements simultaneously while delivering all commitments on time and with high quality

  • Experience creating reports in response to management, audit, or regulatory requirements

  • Demonstrated data analysis experience
