POSITION GOAL

To perform skilled work and assist in the execution of School Bus Operator and Bus Attendant Training Programs. To assist with the execution of comprehensive training programs for all transportation employees.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

The Transportation Trainer shall carry out the essential performance responsibilities listed below:

  • Train and test school bus operators to comply with Florida Department of Education, Transportation Management Section approved curriculum and Department of Highway and Safety and Motor Vehicles guidelines and School Board policy.

  • Train bus attendants in compliance with district curriculums.

  • Demonstrate the ability to prepare required written reports.

  • Communicate effectively and use appropriate interpersonal styles in interacting with all personnel.

  • Evaluate driver performance and study driver behaviors to identify and address problem areas.

  • Assist in organizing the ;School Bus Safety Skills; program.

  • Assist Training Supervisor in designing and implementing training programs. This will involve developing and conducting in-service training to include using technology to design and deliver curriculums.

  • Shall be familiar with and utilize appropriate adult learning styles.

  • Assist Supervisor II, Transportation Terminal as assigned.

  • Participate, successfully, in training programs offered to increase the individual's skill and proficiency related to the assignments.

  • Review current developments, literature and technical sources of information related to responsibilities.

  • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Director, Pupil Transportation or designee.

  • Follow federal laws, state laws, and school board policies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.

  • Must be able to assume responsibility and follow both written and oral instructions. Must meet the requirements of a Bus Operator for the School Board of Broward County, Florida. Employee will be expected to acquire the following certifications: Florida School Bus Driver's Trainer Certificate, within one year of employment and others as determined by the Pupil Transportation Department.

  • This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years of training experience preferred.

  • Bilingual and computer skills preferred.
