Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform other school bus driver related duties as directed by District and department policy and procedures for the purpose of supporting the operational needs of the transportation department;

  • Complete forms, records, and reports as required by State and District policy and procedures for the purpose of documentation, verification and confirmation;

  • Advises all students and other passengers of behavior requirements for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations and maintaining safety;

  • Operate a school bus and/or district vehicle in accordance with the laws of the State of Washington and District policy and procedures for the purpose of providing safe transport;

  • Operate all hand and foot controls installed in the school bus as required by State and District specification and policy for the purpose of ensuring safe transport;

  • Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections (e.g. such as fluid levels, tire pressure, lights, interior and exterior conditions, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safe operating condition of the vehicle required by State and Department policy and procedure, before and after routes and/or trips;

  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned district vehicles for the purpose of ensuring safety, appearance and sanitation of vehicles;

  • Monitors students with special needs until released to teacher, instructional assistant, parent, etc. for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students;

  • Perform basic first aid as appropriate for the purpose of providing immediate assistance in an emergency;

  • Maintain control of passengers for the purpose of ensuring passenger safety.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

The environmental factors described here are representative of those that may be present in the workplace while the employee performs the essential functions of the job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 90% sitting, 5% walking, and 5% standing. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes and in a clean atmosphere.

Education and Experience:

  • High School graduate or equivalent;

  • Job related experience within specialized field is desired.

Expertise:

  • Expertise to perform multiple technical tasks.

Required Testing:

  • Random Drug and Alcohol Testing.

Clearances:

  • Washington State Patrol and FBI Fingerprint Background Clearance;

  • Drivers Abstract.

Licenses:

  • Valid Washington State Driver's License required (must be able to fulfill all traveling requirements of this position, including possessing and maintaining a valid license and automobile insurance, when using a personal vehicle for District business);
  • Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Continuing Education/Training:

  • Must maintain license/certification required for positions as noted in the job description;

  • Sexual Harassment Training (or ability to obtain within 90-days of employment);

  • Safety Training (or ability to obtain within 90-days of employment);

  • Annual in-service training course, annual disclosure, annual physical agility;

  • First Aid/CPR Certification (or ability to obtain within 90-days of employment).
