Position Summary

This position is responsible the supervision of the grounds crew at the NWVMC as well as other cemetery operations that include grounds maintenance, interment operations, cemetery recordkeeping, and facilities and equipment maintenance, repairs, and improvements.

This position directly supervises the cemetery's permanent and limited term grounds crew employees in meeting the compliance initiatives of the National Cemetery Administration Shrine Operational Standards and Measures. This position must exercise initiative, independent judgement, and ensure work is performed in a timely manner with frequent reviews and adjustments for changes in priority. This position has daily contact with families, funeral directors, contractors, and other state agencies that require tactful and professional communication and interaction.

Salary Information

The starting pay rate for this position is between $31.50 - $33.50 an hour ($65,520 and $ 69,680 annually). Current state employees' pay will be based on the provisions in the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan. This classification is in Pay Schedule 81, Pay Range 04. A twelve-month probationary period will be required.

Job Details

The incumbent must possess or be eligible to obtain a valid Wisconsin driver's license prior to appointment and meet and maintain the standards for driving a state vehicle according to fleet management policies.

Due to the nature of this position's duties, the work of this position will be performed outdoors in varying weather conditions.

The incumbent of this position must obtain a WI Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), Commercial Pesticide Applicator license within 12 months of employment.

WDVA will conduct criminal background checks prior to an offer of hire.

Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of application. The WDVA does not sponsor work or student visas, either at time of hire or at any later time.

Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have experience as a lead worker or supervisor (e.g., training staff, coaching/mentoring, providing feedback, setting goals and plans, reviewing work for accuracy and completion, evaluating performance, discipline, conducting and documenting meetings, assigning work, etc.).

Well qualified applicants will also have experience performing all-season facilities and grounds maintenance (e.g., snow and ice removal, mowing and trimming, basic equipment and facility repairs and maintenance, observing safety standards, etc.).
