Successful completion of a US Department of Labor registered building trade apprenticeship training program and journeyman status, plus at least two (2) years of journey level building trade experience, or five years of skilled building construction or building inspection experience, or graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Architecture or construction related engineering, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, or OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Ø A valid State of Illinois driver's license is required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions.

  • Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g., construction sites, heavy machinery).

  • Exposure to loud noise, fumes, or dust.

  • Work performed in cramped or confined locations.

  • Work performed above or below ground level.

  • Work performed using scaffolds and ladders.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to walk for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out with one's body, arms, and/or legs.

  • Ability to access difficult to enter spaces (e.g., roofs, basements, tanks, field equipment, cramped quarters).

  • Ability to tolerate heights while working.

SELECTION REQUIREMENTS

This position requires applicants to complete an interview. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected. The interviewed bidders possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position will be selected in seniority order according to the collective bargaining agreement.

Preference will be given to external candidates possessing the following:

  • First preference will be given to candidates that are fluent in English and Spanish (able to speak, read and write).

  • U.S. Department of Labor or Industry Sponsored Apprenticeship Training Certification and/or a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate's Degree in Architecture or Construction related Engineering.

  • Experience with construction and building components for multi-level commercial and industrial buildings.

  • Experience with renovations of existing buildings to meet minimum standards.

  • Knowledge of municipal building codes.

  • Experience working with architects and structural engineers to interpret plans and specs.

  • Experience reading/interpreting building plans, blueprints and construction specifications.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Outlook.
