Building Performance Engineer
Job Description Summary
The Building Performance Engineer role is to provide support for commissioning and investigative activities . This role will ensure comfort tickets are addressed in a timely fashion, lead commissioning projects and support the smart buildings commissioning program.
Responsible for one or more of the following:
Coordinate and manage testing, tuning and handover of newly constructed building systems
Ensure operational and technical functionality of building systems and infrastructure
Execute retro-commissioning (RCx) studies of buildings and systems: both data-based and onsite inspection / verification testing
Analyze data from building systems to identify and prioritize optimization opportunities
Work with energy management team to develop ROI calculations, secure budgets and manage projects resulting from RCx activities
Contribute to the implementation and/or ongoing management of fault detection & diagnostics (FDD) application(s)
Serve as a subject matter expert for high performance building design, commissioning and operations
Prompt actions and responses to comfort user tickets related to hot and cold calls
Develop investigative reports and possible solutions for user tickets
Reverse engineer existing HVAC systems to solve complex user/equipment comfort concerns in people and lab spaces. Propose solutions using setpoint configuration changes or small projects to improve the system
JOB REQUIREMENTS & QUALIFICATIONS
At least 5 years of experience in building systems (ideally HVAC/mechanical and/or controls) design, commissioning, retro-commissioning, optimization and/or analysis
Strong knowledge of large commercial HVAC systems, how their components work and interact, and how they are automated, controlled, monitored and measured
Ability to use building data to identify performance improvement opportunities down to the root cause, develop specific action plans and/or projects, manage those projects and verify results
Experience, to a level of comfort, with time series data and common tools to work with data, i.e. some combination of spreadsheets (Google Sheets or Excel)
Must be diligent with data quality and speed for project deliveries.
Ability to create client-ready slides, reports and visualizations
Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written.
Must possess a high level of accuracy and neatness.
