Job Title: Building Paraprofessional/Interpreter (Spanish-English)
Location: Rock Springs High School (Main Office)
Reports To: Building Principal

Nature and Scope of Job:
The Building Paraprofessional/Interpreter is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere for all individuals entering the school, handling secretarial duties, and providing translation and interpretation services for Spanish-speaking students and families. This position requires proficiency in both Spanish and English, excellent communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks in a busy school environment.
Job Functions
Essential Functions:
1.Greet and assist visitors, parents, students, and staff in a pleasant and courteous manner.
2.Handle incoming phone calls using proper telephone procedures and techniques.
3.Translate District documents and interpret communications for Spanish-speaking families and staff.
4.Assist with parent conferences and other situations requiring Spanish interpretation.
5.Assess ELL students on Spanish language proficiency and provide accommodations for English-based assessments.
6.Maintain accurate and complete records required by law, District policy, and procedure.
7.Supervise students in classrooms, lunchroom, and playground as needed.
8.Maintain confidentiality of all information concerning students and staff.
9.Serve as a liaison between home and school for Spanish-speaking families.
Participate in staff development opportunities and collaborate with teachers and principals.
Complete necessary paperwork for compliance and accountability.
Evaluate online translation tools for the District.
Assess bilingual capability of applicants.
Other Functions:
1.Follow all District policies and procedures.
2.Keep informed by reading building and District communications.
3.Respond to requests for information in a timely manner.
4.Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Mental Ability:
Demonstrates written and oral proficiency in both Spanish and English.
Knowledge of current office practices and computer literacy, with proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and student recordkeeping.
Ability to follow and successfully complete both written and oral directions.
Clear enunciation and positive communication throughout the workday.
Visual acuity to read and interpret written reports accurately.
Ability to work with various personality types and maintain sound emotional judgment.
Knowledge of basic first aid and ability to administer medication and handle emergencies as per district regulations.
Minimum Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Computer literate with knowledge of Mac preferred.
