General Position Summary

The building maintenance mechanic will support the Facilities Services Department's responsibility for the maintenance of critical infrastructure systems supporting PJM control rooms and computer rooms; as well as preventive/remedial maintenance and property management functions for other PJM campus buildings including the mechanical, electrical, structural, environmental, and fire protection systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for performing basic facilities support tasks such as limited custodial duties, package delivery, furniture set up/knockdown, painting, basic carpentry, cable pulls, and meeting room set-ups.

  • Perform monitoring and recording of equipment performance by periodic reading of gauges and displayed information, and appropriately responding to visual and building automation system generated alarms.

  • Perform electrical construction such as installation, termination, and inspection of electrical systems ranging up to 480 volts A.C. Basic understanding of electrical theory such as Ohm's law and NEC code is required

  • Diagnosis of electrical problems, understanding of test instruments such as ohmmeters, ammeters, voltmeters, and temperature detectors.

  • Read building prints such as electrical single line, schematics, and wiring drawings, HVAC design drawings and architectural plans to determine existing infrastructure for planning and/or trouble shooting.

  • Utilize Building Automation Systems (BAS.) to monitor infrastructure environmental systems and address system alarm conditions and problems.

  • Perform mechanical tasks such as replacing/installing systems components, as air conditioning piping, pumps fans and air handler filters. Ability to correctly read pressure and temperature gauges.

  • Familiarity with inspection and basic diagnosis of fire protection systems including ionization detectors, rate-compensated temperature detectors and double-interlocked (pre-action) sprinkler systems.

Characteristics and Qualifications


  • High school diploma

  • Experience with shift work and ability to work rotating shifts supporting a 7x24 environment.Physically capable of lifting up to fifty pounds, able to bend, kneel, climb ladder

  • Excellent work ethic -- positive, forward-thinking, "can do" attitude.

  • Experience with common hand and power tools (hammers, drills, wrenches, ratchet sets)

  • Ability to address multiple tasks in concurrent manner from assignment to completion.

  • A self-directed and highly motivated worker with the ability to take a project from inception to completion.

  • Ability to assimilate information and follow instructions.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with management, supervision, peers and customers.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team-based environment

  • A valid driver's license required at all times.

  • Ability to follow safety procedures as well as donning the appropriate PPE

  • Preferred:

Previous work experience in commercial office facilities support operation.PC literate (use of Microsoft Office tools and Auto Cad)Electrical, mechanical, wiring, or automated building system monitoring experience.Prior Department of Transportation (DOT) Driving Certification to operate a Commercial Vehicle

What You Will Do As Gannett Fleming continues to grow and expand, we are looking for a highly motivated Bridge Designer to join our team in our Valley Forge, PA and our new Lehigh Valley, PA office. We rely on our bridge designers to perform bridge design and inspection activities on various projects and to deliver high quality results for our clients. Candidates must possess a "can do" attitude and strong team building skills. In this role, the Bridge Designer will perform structural analysis and develop plans, special provisions, quantities and construction estimates for a wide variety of bridges, retaining walls, and other related highway and railroad structures. A good understanding of highway and geotechnical engineering is desirable. The Bridge Designer will also assist with performing bridge condition safety inspections. Some short-term travel will be required with these inspections. This role requires excellent communication skills, effective time management, analytical, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be articulate with a professional presence and solid decision-making, planning and organizational skills. As a Bridge Designer, you are an integral part of our team and will develop the skills needed for a successful career in Structural Engineering at Gannett Fleming. Typical Duties * Perform and check bridge geometry, structural design, and quantity calculations. * Prepare and develop details and plans for highway/railway bridges and related structures. * Participate in the development of construction contract documents, such as specifications, cost estimates and review construction documents such as shop and working drawings. * Perform bridge inspections, load capacity rating analysis, and develop structure inspection reports. * Works as part of a project team within the bridge discipline. Minimum Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering * 0-4 years of experience in structural engineering * Experience or familiarity with LFD & LRFD concrete and steel design methodologies * Experience with STAAD, Conspan, RC Pier, PennDOT bridge design programs or other structural design programs as well as proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) * Experience or familiarity with CADD drawing development * Detail oriented with strong skills in structural analysis, steel design, and concrete design as it relates to transportation structures * Strong verbal and written communication skills required * Ability to work in a team environment, self-starter, demonstrated organization skills, team player, and strong willingness to increase industry knowledge Preferred Qualifications * A Masters degree in Civil Engineering * An Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification * Proficiency with Microstation with basic knowledge of bridge plan development and detailing * Preference given to local candidate Life at Gannett Fleming For more than 100 years, we've been a leader in global infrastructure solutions with a focus on planning, design, technology, and construction management services for a diverse array of markets and disciplines.
