Distinguishing Features of the Class:
This is a broad class covering many types of recurring routine mechanical work in the building maintenance trades and for assisting in a variety of construction, maintenance and repair work. General instructions are received and the work is performed under immediate or general supervision depending on the nature of the task. Supervision over the work of other is not normally a function of this class. Does related work as required.
Typical Work Activities:
The typical work activities listed below, while providing representative examples of the variety of work assignments in the title, do not describe any individual position. Incumbents in this title may perform some or all of the following, as well as other related activities not described.
Performs minor work involving plumbing, masonry, carpentry, electrical or other building maintenance functions;
Assists in the installation and repair of wiring systems and electric fixtures and equipment;
Repairs windows, doors, floors, walls and other parts of buildings;
Does interior and exterior painting where quantity rather than fine quality of work performed is the principle object;
Assists in the installation and repair of general plumbing equipment such as: sinks, toilets, baths and septic systems;
Assists in checking, cleaning and repairing boilers, pumps, heaters, pipe lines, valves and traps;
Mixes plaster and concrete and assists in laying brick, plastering walls, finishing concrete work, etc.;
May assist a skilled mechanic in performing repairs to motor equipment;
Takes part in general grounds maintenance activities.
Full Performance knowledge, skills, abilities and personal characteristics:
Working knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices; ability to follow oral and/ or written instructions; mechanical aptitude; manual dexterity; reliability; good judgment; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

In addition, CSEA covered members receive, on an annual basis: 10 vacation days, 12 sick days, 5 personal days, and 15 holidays including 4 floating holidays. CSEA covered members who are required to work on a Holiday will be compensated at the overtime rate for all hours worked and in addition, shall be given commensurate time off.
