The purpose of this classification is to perform a variety of routine maintenance and light repair of Consolidated Government owned buildings and facilities as assigned. Performs high-level skilled maintenance and construction work including carpentry, painting, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work.

Responsibilities also include troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair-related duties at Augusta facilities within the guidelines of work order and Augusta-Richmond County departmental rules and procedures. Works with co-workers and the public to provide operational support. Performs general maintenance and repair work on buildings, equipment, grounds, and related facilities: and performs semi-skilled manual work involving building maintenance, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting and drywall, masonry, custodial, or other maintenance projects.

Assists in ensuring that the operation, construction, and maintenance of buildings, equipment, and systems are in compliance with applicable laws, codes, regulations, and standards: conducts maintenance inspections of buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities to identify potential problems, unsafe conditions, and needed repairs; and initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations or violations. Performs various routine electrical tasks: troubleshoots electrical problems; installs electrical receptacles and switches; repairs electrical components; trips or replaces breaker; and replaces light bulbs and ballasts. Performs various tasks involving general building maintenance, carpentry, masonry or construction projects: paints interior and exterior surfaces; performs general concrete work, plaster applications and places sheetrock; removes, repairs, and replaces floor/ceiling tile; inspects, installs and repairs roofs; installs, adjusts, and repairs doors and hardware; replaces windows, doors, and glass panes; lubricates hardware; performs locksmith duties; and performs related maintenance and repair activities.

Performs various routine plumbing tasks: troubleshoots plumbing problems: installs and repairs plumbing fixtures; clears and unblocks water lines and drains; repairs steam lines, toilets, sinks, faucets, drinking fountains, etc.; solders pipes; and repairs plumbing leaks. Determines amount of materials needed to complete projects: provides cost projections as requested; gathers equipment, tools, parts, and supplies; monitors inventory levels; and orders new or replacement materials as required. Participates in the setup and removal of tables, chairs, stages etc. for daily meetings and classes and special events.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. POSITION SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: May participate in the renovation of old buildings or help with the remodeling of existing buildings.

Education: High school diploma or GED {Please note: Upon job offer, you will be required to provide proof of education. Be sure to have the appropriate documents readily available.} Experience:

Three (3) years of experience in general construction, maintenance and repair. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Considerable knowledge of the methods, techniques, standards, and tools used in carpentry, masonry, painting, and plumbing industries.

Familiarity with departmental and safety rules and regulations. Proficiency in using hand and bench tools. Good communication skills, both oral and written.

Demonstrated ability to work independently. Basic math skills for estimating height, width, length and other proportions. Special Requirements:

May require working in or accessing a secure facility. Employee shall meet and maintain the security requirements/clearance set by the Sheriff's Office or relevant agency. Licensing/Certification:

Possession of a valid driver's license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment. This position requires driving a county vehicle and requires the incumbent to be at least 21 years of age.

Includes performing subsequent actions in relation to these computational operations. Human Interaction: Requires the ability to provide guidance, assistance, and/or interpretation to others regarding the application of procedures and standards to specific situations.

Equipment: Requires the ability to operate, maneuver and/or control the actions of equipment, machinery, tools, and/or materials used in performing essential functions. Verbal: Requires the ability to utilize a wide variety of reference and descriptive data and information. Math: Requires the ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division; the ability to calculate decimals and percentages; the ability to utilize principles of fractions; and the ability to interpret graphs.

Functional Reasoning:

Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives. Situational Reasoning:

Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria. Physical Abilities: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds). Sensory Requirements:

Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally. Environmental Factors:

Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, smoke, noise extremes, and electric currents.
