Supervise personnel in the maintenance and construction trades of electricity, electronics, carpentry, painting, and maintenance repair. Assist the Physical Plant Director in planning construction and maintenance work and keep the Physical Plant Director informed on all maintenance and construction activities of the department.
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Ability to plan and supervise the work of employees in licensed building trades and other occupations, who perform building and grounds maintenance, repair and construction work.
Thorough working knowledge of physical plant maintenance and operations, construction techniques and procedures, and building and grounds maintenance equipment and practices.
Knowledge of State of Minnesota building code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and State AWAIR (A Workplace Accident and Injury Reduction) Act provisions.
Ability to prepare plans and specifications, including estimating labor and material costs, for construction and repair projects.
Skills in reading and interpreting blueprints for new construction, remodeling and other projects.
Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize and complete work requests; administer a preventive maintenance program; and maintain complete and accurate records.
Skills in verbal and written communications sufficient to clearly communicate work assignments to employees (and offender workers if applicable); provide input on work performance; and report on completed work.
Interpersonal/human relations skills sufficient to provide effective supervision.
Ability to maintain an adequate inventory of building and grounds maintenance equipment, supplies and tools.
Computer and typing skills sufficient to enter accurate information into a work order system.
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
+Experience working in a correctional/secured environment including tool inventory control.
+Experience supervising or leading new construction and/or remodeling projects in a commercial, industrial or large complex setting.
+Experience in supervising or providing lead work direction to other employees, preferably experience in supervising or leading licensed or unlicensed trades' employees.
+Experience supervising or leading outside contractors of various building trades.
+Experience working with the Archibus work order system.
The completion of pre-placement physical components may be required prior to hire for this position. These components consist of a physical examination, a drug test and/or tuberculosis screening.
