Scope of Work
Performs the maintenance of all city buildings and equipment. Performs maintenance tasks, including air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry, and steel erection.
Essential Job Duties
Inspects and maintains air conditioning equipment not maintained by outside contractors.
Makes plumbing repairs and installations, including broken lines, faucets, and clean sewer lines.
Performs electrical repairs and installations, including electrical outlets, light ballast, and bulbs. Roughs in electrical.
Paints doors, walls, and trim. Replaces tile and cove base, ceramic, and composition.
Moves furniture and boxes, hangs pictures, and repairs furniture.
Performs carpentry repairs, including replacing doors, jams, and window glass.
Repairs equipment, including cook stoves and hose driers.
Makes minor roof repairs and seals around buildings.
Assists in the construction of new facilities and renovations of existing facilities.
Position requires: Standby/On-call rotations and must be able to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime when necessary.
Performs related duties as required.
Physical and Environmental Conditions
Ability to sit, stand and transport self from building to building. Ability to drive a vehicle to and from various work sites. The employee will work in seasonal temperatures bending, kneeling, twisting, and climbing in order to repair and maintain buildings and equipment. Employees can work with potential mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards while making repairs.
Required Qualifications
Employee communicates with other employees in the workgroup and building occupants. Employees will also work with equipment operators in order to obtain information and make repairs. Communication with other individuals as required to complete job assignments.
Ability to safely use tools and equipment such as sewer machines, amp/volt meters, trucks, welding and cutting torches, gauge manifold, and hand tools. Skill in the reading and practical application of manuals, blueprints, and other similar specifications used by the city. Must be able to read blueprints and transform them into actual jobs. Ability to read, measure and calculate types and sizes of materials needed for equipment and building systems repair and ability to reason the amount of time that will be used in the process-familiarity with local City and building codes. A substantial understanding of HVAC systems and processes is required.
A high school diploma or GED and three to five years of experience in a related field are required. A valid Texas driver's license is required. CDL preferred.
