Maintenance Mechanic 1

This position reports to the Maintenance Specialist 4 and is responsible for performing multi-skilled, sub-journey level work required to accomplish all phases of building maintenance and construction work.
This is a civilian position and does not require military service affiliation.

Preventative Maintenance:
Responsible for assisting journey level mechanics in the installation and repair of plumbing equipment such as toilets, sinks, faucets, valves, showers, etc.
Assist journey level mechanics in construction and structural tasks that include large commercial roll-up doors, tracks and operators, roofing inspection/repairs, windows, exterior sheathing, sheet metal, personal doors, and locks sets.
Mechanical:
Assist journey level mechanics performing repair and installation of HVAC systems.
Assist in the installation of condensing units, evaporators, humidifiers, and air handlers.
Assist in the installation and maintenance of exhaust fans, recirculation fans, and associated fan coil units.
Perform skilled operation of shop equipment, power hand tools, and other tools primarily used in the HVAC industry.
Structural:
Assist journey level mechanics performing all phases and types of skilled structural work required to construct, repair, or replace structural systems.
Assist with basic carpentry skills such as framing, door installation, counter, or bookshelf construction, etc.
Assist with placing and finishing floors, ceilings, walls, pads, ramps, and walkways.
Assist with installing insulation drywall, paneling, plaster, exterior sheeting and siding, composite roof materials, windows, and doors.
Assist with finishing and trimming cabinets, counter tops, moldings, paints, stains, etc.
Electrical:
Assist journey level electrician in repairing, replacing, or installing electrical equipment.
Assist in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment such as motors, fan motors, motorized door operators, switches, outlets, lighting fixtures, and shop equipment.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED, and
Two years of general work experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, and/or building repair work.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
Methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in building and maintenance work.
Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the building trades.
HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems, and components.
Skills and Abilities to:
Read plans and blueprints
Consult with supervisors and make recommendations about repairs/remodeling work needed.
Track, monitor, and log equipment, supplies, and work orders to maintain required maintenance and expense records.
Compensation: Wage/salary depends on qualifications or rules of promotion.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Background Investigation: Must successfully complete the appropriate background checks required for employment and to obtain/maintain a DoD Common Access Card (CAC) in order to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret-level security clearance. Must be willing to sign releases of information and shall not have access to any investigative materials and files. The processing of background checks can take up to six months post-employment. Failure to successfully pass a background check may be cause for termination.

Driver's License:
Valid to drive in the State of Washington.
Must meet requirements of the REAL ID Act. This is required for base access and will be required upon hire.
Military Facility: Willingness to work on a Military Controlled Access Installation.
Camp Murray and Fairchild Air Force Base use the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) for entry to the installation. Must meet access requirements / background check which can be found in the Camp Murray Access Requirements Policy (Unified Policy No. 18-01). This includes possession of an Enhanced Driver's License, or other REAL ID Compliant Identification.
Work Hours: The standard work schedule will be Tuesday through Friday (4/10 schedule) 6:00am
Emergency Assignment: Upon activation of the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) or Joint Field Office (JFO), incumbent may be required to work in an alternate location with rotating shifts, including weekends and evenings, in a highly stressful and fast-paced environment.
Travel: Occasional statewide travel may be required.
